Seems like we need linebacker play in the worst way. With Taco underwhelming, would Foster been a good pick?

Possibly as I mentioned in another thread.

But he was hurt and given his injury history and the rumors he took a beating at Bama with how he played, you wonder if Foster will ever be a guy you can count on or is he going to be another Lee or worse, Chaz Green, where injuries just continually hamper him.

@Hardline

He's been injured to start most of the year. Of course that doesn't mean he would be injured here, but can't too much in the tub.

Put it this way. W3 need to draft a linebacker so bad it hurts
And guess what. Right now it doesn't look like there is 1 worthy if a too 15 pick(a 4-3 one)

Any Defensive player would have been better...

I won’t say his name for the millionth time but he’s got a big brother and both names are similar to AJ lol Taco was the “well, I guess we’ll take him since no one wants trade with us” pick.

No, but the mid rounds have some potentially solid guys. TJ Edwards, Jewell, Cameron Smith, Kendall Joseph, Cichy and Kiser etc

2014 Draft. Zack Martin is a great OL but damn if the Steelers hadn't taken Shazier one pick before. With the power of hindsight, CJ Mosley may have been worth it over Martin too. It's a lot easier to find a serviceable OL elsewhere (ex: Kyle Kosier, Ron Leary) than it is to find a stud LB.

neither of those guys are even close to the level martin plays on.

This organization has spent a lot of resources on defense in the past three years. They just have not produced at a high level.

If gregory had worked out and never been suspended they probably would not have been scared to pull the trigger on noah spence. i would take spence everyday of the week over smith. They could have paid brian orakpo but Jerry had to have hardy and all that came with him.

they have completely blown it on the defensive personnel side.

I am not trying to be a jerk but Marinelli has a big hand in the players they take, they are taking guys that fits what he wants to do. This makes sense obviously because taking players that dont fit makes zero sense but at this point it has to be considered less than a success.

It always seems like nobody fits what they want...Defensive tackles are all too big, too slow or not quick twitch enough....linebackers its the same thing.

Its a bummer and they are stuck in this situation for the foreseeable future.

Dallas likely doesn't go 12-4 and ever establish a run heavy identity that has lead to decent success if we don't draft Martin.

Weird guy to pick a LBer over when we could have taken Kuechly instead of Claiborne.

We needed to pick up a Free Agent MIKE who could start right away to not force Hitchens into having to start at the MIKE and allow Jaylon to grow into the position.

The problem with Foster was his attitude. Different story in Dallas where the press kills the team for having anybody with a controversial background.

Nailed it with the last part.

I don't think Ruben Foster would thrive here for the same reason most character concerns can't either.

History shows the spotlight this team plays with will not allow players like him to succeed here.

Or Bobby Wagner in round 2 that year...someone made a thread about it a week or so ago, but dang if that draft didn't set us back and continue to haunt us a bit

Like who?

Rand Gregory, Greg Hardy, Terrell Owens, Pacman Jones come to mind.

But better yet, outside of Dez what character risk/OTF baggage player have we taken that's panned out for us? (Since the 90s)

None of those guys left because of the spotlight. TO and McClain played some really good football for us.

I'm not saying they left because of the spotlight.

I'm saying whatever character flaw a player has, it's exacerbated with the celebrity that accompanies being a cowboy.

You can't fly under the radar here.

Tell me what flying under the radar would have done for any of those guys. You said the spotlight wouldn't allow those guys to play here. In what way did the spotlight play a role in any of them leaving or not playing up to expectations?

Not too long ago, I'd probably respond with some long history comparing and contrasting how players are treated differently by the league and media when they are on the most recognizable franchise versus when they are playing for the Kansas City Chiefs or Tennessee Titans.

But I'm lazier now.

So I'll leave it with a rhetorical question for you to think about; do you think Greg Hardy, a 27 yr-old elite pass rusher, would be out of the league if he had've been signed with the Buccaneers?
