Would the Cowboys-Commanders rivalry still feel the same to you if the Commanders changed their name?

I hope they cave to the PC police

The beauty of that would be the agony it would cause their fan base. It would wipe out that all important self perceived "tradition" they like to yap about. A tradition of getting their A**E* handed to them by the Dallas Cowboys. A tradition of ONE, yep ONE Super Bowl victory in a "FULL" NFL season!

Which means what?

There are plenty of rivalries outside of Dallas and Washington, no Cowboys or Indians involved.

Right, but what sets this rivalry apart to people who aren't fans of either team is largely the Cowboys and Indians angle. It's the "charm" of the rivalry. In short, the imagery is iconic and American as hell.

The Cardinals moved from St. Louis to Arizona, and out of the NFC East and I still hate their team with a passion. I'd hate them even if they changed their name to something that was about Arizona and dropped the stupid red bird. I'd hate them even if they completely changed colors.

The Giants, Eagles, and Commanders have about as much chance of me not hating them as I have of buying the Cowboys from Jerry.

I honestly don't think people who aren't fans of either team care.

I think mass exposure and ability to watch every game has made rivalries much less pronounced anyway.

Commanders, Sheepskins, Belly Buttons.....

I don't think it matters.

I hate the Eagles more than any team more so than the Commanders, and I think the majority of younger Cowboys fans would agree with me.

I would think less of them if they changed their name, and considering I can't stand them, not sure how much lower they can go to me....put it this way, the Commanders look up to pond scum in my world

I'm not saying that's why the rivalry matters. I'm saying that's a part of what sets it apart from a standard rivalry.

I think it would feel permanently different, especially if the Washington team also changed their uniform as well.

They just need to change the logo

Someone was denied a copyright or something to that effect for that usage last week.

If they changed the Washington Commander's name, it'd bother me just as much as this picture does.

Daniel Snyder publicly said there will be no name change which is unfortunate. Washington is very offensive to me. I am totally cool with the Commander name. Liberalism and politically correctness will be the death of this country.

If you dont think a name change would change the rivalry, you just dont understand . . . . . . . .

Aside from the Cowboys & Indians motif, I still don't really understand how this would change the rivalry at all. They still have Dan Snyder. We still have Jerry Jones. They still overpay for aging vets and suck. We still hate them. They still hate us. That's it.

Well, as a long-time fan, I can say that it wouldn't be the same. What? "Hail to the Beavers"? Stupid. The best thing that franchise has done in their history is refuse to change their name. History and Tradition are important. Far more important that someone's self-pity, and overly-sensitive feelings. I hate the Commanders. I have since 1960. But, just as every Sherlock must have his Moriarity and every Superman must have his Luthor, the Cowboys must have their Commanders.

lol, spoken like someone who's never been to DC.

But to answer the question, no, it won't matter. They will always be burgundy and gold and I will always hate the Washington football organization, no matter what they're called.

DC is a great city.

Got more love than hate for my Cowboy gear.

But that was before the natives hopped on the RGKNEE wagon

i have a special relationship with the cowboys-Commanders rivalry because my father is a Commanders fan and there's nothing worse than having to hear a bunch of crap from him after a Commanders victory (and nothing better than giving it to him after another cowboys victory!) but the dynamics in the nfc east have definitely changed. i hate the eagles because they've been classless. i hate the giants because they stole two super bowl berths from us and embarrassed us, for example, in the home opener of the new stadium.

in short, i cherish the cowboys-Commanders rivalry but i love every loss our division rivals suffer (no matter to whom) and, yes, all three rivalries matter more when playoffs are on the line.

oh, and, hostile, i never managed to hate the cardinals. they always seemed like the teams that got beaten by the globetrotters. if i had my way, i'd schedule the cardinals 10 times a season. especially when emmitt was dancing all over them.
