Would the Cowboys-Commanders rivalry still feel the same to you if the Commanders changed their name?

I think it would feel permanently different, especially if the Washington team also changed their uniform as well.

We would still be playing the team from Washington. And we haven't had much a rivaly in some time. Teams that consistently lose don't have one.

Some people are superficial and only live within the moment. The rivalry will exist unchanged for some because it has always been about the franchise for them and not about self-appointed excuses to avoid disliking Washington. Ironically, the thread topic is not unlike the ever resurfacing Dallas Cowboys fan love/hate dynamic...

I don't like the Cowboys now because of Jerry Jones.

I don't like the Cowboys now because of Tony Romo.

I don't like the Cowboys now because of Jason Garrett.

I don't like the Cowboys now because of their playoff drought.

Etc., etc. BUT...

I will like the Cowboys again when Jones has departed the mortal coil.

I will like the Cowboys again when Romo gets the boot.

I will like the Cowboys again when Garrett is run out of Big D.

I will like the Cowboys again when they hoist another Lombardi trophy.

Some people should ask themselves what really drives their love, like, hate or dislike of the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL. Back to the thread topic.

Me?

It pisses me off that some folks got together in Boston during the 1930's and created the franchise in the first place. That happened over thirty years before I was born. BUT I'm supposed to think differently about Washington because of some superficial change happening down the road?
What a joke. lol. My opinion of the Washington franchise will not change one iota until they no longer EXIST, so I'll keep on disliking them the exact same way until the day I die, thanks very much.

To me, the Cowboys main rivals in the year 2014 are:

1.) Eagles
2.) Giants
3.) Commanders

Clearly, the order is subjective, and it does change from time to time, IMO. I personally dislike the Eagles more than the Skins and G-Men put together.

lol, spoken like someone who's never been to DC.

But to answer the question, no, it won't matter. They will always be burgundy and gold and I will always hate the Washington football organization, no matter what they're called.

I live near dc.. What exactly about this place doesn't suck?

I hope they never cave in to the ridiculous PC crap. Now to the question, if they stay in DC, then the rivalry might still be the same. I can't really say since it hasn't happened, but if they ever moved it would definitely not be the same. When a team moves and changes their name it is like a different team. Does anyone really still think of the Titan's as the Houston Oilers or the Ravens as the original Cleveland Browns? I know I don't but the Cardinals are still the Cardinals and the Raiders are still the Raiders and the Colts are still the Colts no matter where they are because their name never changed. If they ever change their name, I know I will still hate them but it would be different.

The Colts name did change once. The went from being the Dallas Texans to being the Baltimore Colts. (this was in the 50s before the AFL was formed and a different Dallas Texans team became the Kansas City Chiefs.)

That was before my time so I have always known them as the Colts. That does help prove my point in my original post that very few see them as the "Texans". I knew about the Cheifs being originally the Dallas Texans but still think of them as just the Cheifs now. I believe a teams name means a lot. If they change names you have to be a history buff to keep up.

To answer the OP's question, if the Washington team name still referenced the historic conflict between he "Cowboys and Indians" then I guess it could remain relatively unaffected. I don't know how Snyder would do that though, somebody would still complain. . That being said, I'd hate to see Washington cave for basically the same reason others have stated, it's another sign of the downward death spiral this society is currently in.

I don't because a small minority of mostly non native Americans make this an issue. It is a sign of our gutless, weak society.

At one point I noticed the entire issue was being kept alive by a single Native American group called the Oneida Indian Nation via almost daily headlines at PFT. I looked around and found Oneida runs the Turning Stone Resort Casino. At the Turning Point homepage, was the NBC logo announcing fights at the casino. (I checked and today the fights are being presented by ESPN.) Of course, there is also an NBC logo at PFT.

All of the comments I put up at PFT asking Florio about this interesting relationship were put into admin without response.

Outside of the two areas there is no more rivalry. As someone who grew up in Ohio Cowboys Commanders was always a must watch. Anymore no one even notices as neither team has been consistently good over the past two decades. That's the biggest threat to this rivalry, not team names. In todays age of parity the big rivalries come and go. Dallas/Washington used to be the best in the sport. Now its Indy/New England, maybe 9ers/Seahawks. You get both Dallas and Washington to meet in the playoffs, all of a sudden its one of the greats again. Until then its just another couple games on a 16 game schedule.
