I think you are the one that missed the point.
The point was that it's contradictory to on the one hand talk about how simple the game is then on the other claim that the scheme makes the difference.
Simple is lining everyone up in basic formations and going head to head.
Complex is doing everything possible to method to confuse and deceive the opposition with multiple formations and changes of personnel and motion and trick plays and doing the unexpected .......... whih is a function of the "scheme".
The truth is somewhere in between, and is something that I have frequently argued about. Players are the foundation - talent is the base for success. No scheme can make up for a lack of talent - it can help cover it to a degree - but it can't overcome it. Nevertheless, football is a changing game with new schemes being created all the time and creative minds being employed to implement their ideas. It's not a plain vanilla game anymore, and teams have to be imaginative to compete.
