Would You Be Disappointed if we kept the same 5 OL?

The same 5 starting OL? I might not have a problem with it, given they played pretty damn well when they were all healthy....

All the same OL on the roster? NO, we need some good young depth that can fill in when needed and look to the future. If we can get a young OL that is pro ready and can fill in like Doug Free did last season I think we'll be much better off. Best case scenario the new guy and Doug Free only come in to spell the starters, worst case scenario the new guy and Doug Free play extensively due to a starter injury (but play up to their standards, which should be high).

Not as long as we add some depth.

But I really am disappointed in Flo.

I hate to sound like a loony conspiracy theorist .... but I really think he was faking that injury to get out of that game.

I would be 100% for that scenario. With all the injured rookies that hardly ever saw the field, it almost seems like we have three or four new faces without drafting a single person. Jumping up a few spots to nab a real player that could challenge for a role from the start would not be such a bad scenario. I tell ya, it would really stink to have another scenario like Max Unger last year. That just bummed me out all offseason!

Been thinking of that a lot lately. Wonder how he's doing for them.

I'm usually one to stand pat or trade down. Let the draft come to you and select the BPA.
Because of some teams going need or BPAs simply having no role on other teams, you almost always have good players slip.

If a team does a good job stacking their board and then execute BPA picks, they're always going to come out on top.

But when your as close as we are. When your roster appears as stacked and talent as ours does. And when you're need in one particular area is so great............
You really need to be willing to pay a little premium the get the best players possible that fill that need.

I'd much rather over pay a little to trade up for an Iupati, than have this type scenario play out........

We stand pat at 27 and see an OL we really like picked at 25. Now none of the next 10-12 BPAs are offensive lineman.
We trade down to 40 and wait. Now 40 rolls around and again none of the next dozen BPAs are offensive lineman.

This is my nightmare scenario.

I would like to get some young talent in to groom for the future. And I would not be upset if those same 5 were not there either, but I'd be ok if they were as well if we have stronger depth.

OL depth that's great. But what good is depth if the coaches are too afraid to start a healthy backup if the injured starter's feelings might be hurt.

Obviously Columbo wasn't ready to start against the Vikings and Free should have remained the starter.

But ultimately Wade didn't have the stones to let Free play. A healthy tackle would have helped against Edwards. Instead we had Romo running for his life.

Even the looniest conspiracy theories have some motive, some reason it's plausible.

Why do you think Adams wanted out of that game? Has he ever done this before?:D

But it's all academic once Adams decided he just had to get out of that game.:laugh2:

Given what happened in Minnesota, would you be disappointed if we started the season with the exact same starting 5 OL as we ended the year with?

not just based on the Minn. game. when you get to the playoffs, specially the second round, there are good teams that have talent and they are generally good in a lot of areas, and they will expose your weaknesses.

philly got exposed because their Lines weren't physical and they were being over matched.

minn, exposed our lack of athleticism on the corners of the line.

I would be disappointed if Free didn't start.

I would be disappointed if we didn't draft a LT, LG or center. depending on where they think brewster would fit. I would like to see us draft a LT, even trade up a few spots if one starts to fall for whatever reason and nab our LT of trhe future for the next 10 years. adams maybe a good run blocker but he is not that good in pass protection having given up 8 sacks and he also got a lot of help in pass blocking.

yes. I would be disappointed with the same 5, because that's what held our offense back. with the same 5 you will see more of the same, lots of yards, but not a lot of scores.

This draft needs to be first round Iupati third round Fox and we are set.

Trading Koiser and our 1st round could get us up a few spots
:banghead: If we trade Kosier that means not only do we need a new starting LG, but a backup as well.

Actually Kosier is one of our better lineman, I don't think he really needs to be replaced, although a bruiser might be better for the run game.

We're at 27. He's rated as the #1 Guard in the draft. He'll go alot higher than a few spots above 27. Give it up.

A guard has never been taken above 18, correct?

I questioned that injury from the get-go.

Haven't heard anything about it yet.

I don't know if he was 100% faking but I don't think for 1 minute it was serious enough to take him out of the biggest game of his career.

Never said he was faking. Just said he called it a day when he felt a little pain.

I see Colombo as a surprise training camp cut. Free will be anointed the starter at RT, Flozell stays one more year and we draft Pouncey to push Kosier and eventually take over for Gurode. Dallas wanted Max Unger last year so you know they're still looking for that G/C.

I would not be disappointed if we went the draft route.
The new linemen would, naturally, have to sit and learn and that takes maybe 1 or 2 years.
As long as we do something in the draft to address our almost-adequte OL.
