Would You Be Good with Carr Returning after Paycut?

I think at best he will be an average deep to intermediate zone player but he is very good man to man player. His play in the short zone has been very good lately. He has done a great job taking on outside runs, bubble screens, and other horizontal throws.

Now I get he is not worth the $9m that he scheduled but if he were to cut that 60% to around $4m a la Doug Free, I think he would be worth that. FA corners that are going to be available at that price are not going to be much if any better than Carr and the market for Carr himself is not likely to be higher.

If he starts playing consistently like he did against the colts. Then yes.

Paycut to 4 million a year? Yes, I'd keep him. I'd keep the secondary in tact and focus on obtaining pass rusher(s).

Morris Claiborne is a different story.

Agree, however I do believe Mo has his value. He can be better at his price than any other cb coming in here. As we won't draft a top cb, and won't pay top FA $$$$ either.
We will need the depth, and I do believe he can be some good depth. Just not a full time starter.

Claiborne has guaranteed money next year but I hear you. That was my thought as well that we need DE, DT, OLB and could use competition at WR, OL, and S. Adding CB as a stark need to that seems like a lot to deal with.

I think he'll look better with a decent pass rush, but I'd only bring him back with a big pay cut.

An improved pass rush will definitely help the back seven in coverage next year.

I expect Rod Marinelli to return, which isn't a given, and our 2015 defensive coordinator will impact the forthcoming decision on Brandon Carr.

Carr is best suited to play press man and using more of it would be in order if the team wants to keep him. Assistant coaches and players are urging Marinelli to use more man coverage right now.

If Marinelli wants to keep playing more cover 3, Carr isn't a good fit and should be let go. Dallas should go after a free agent and a draft pick who meet coach Nelli's criteria.

Carr can probably make more with the Cowboys by taking a pay cut than he could get as a free agent.

While it's easy to suggest the cut in pay, players have egos and the idea of walking back into the locker room with everyone in there knowing you just gave up millions of dollars is often too big a pill to swallow.

Carr is due $8M in 2015, $9.1M in 2016 and $10M in 2017.

I would want to cut it to $3M next year and $4M in '16, saving $10.1M cumulatively. I would fully guarantee those base salaries at the start of each league year and make 2017 voidable. This is similar to how Doug Free's contract was re-worked last year.

Carr would have comfort in knowing that he was safe next year and that good play would all but guarantee he'd return in 2016.

Dallas could release Carr before the '16 league year started and the full guarantee kicked in if his play wasn't up to scratch in 2015.

I would welcome Claiborne if he plays physical and swarms to the ball/carrier like everyone else on our defense.

Fine with Carr and a paycut.

Throw in a midrounder at CB for competition.

I actually thought Mo was starting to get it before he got hurt. I know it was a very small sample size but all the criticism he was getting it was like he was either blocking it out or wasn't paying attention because all of the people filling his head up with how good he is supposed to be and didn't really work at it. Now that he seemed to get that message by being benched hopefully that sends a message to him that getting by on talent doesn't work. I would like to give him one more chance.

We've been playing more man than some people realize. Just seems like every time we get torched it's a zone coverage.

I wonder what the cap numbers are for restructuring Carr versus releasing him or making him a June first cut

Idk. It was like he just didn't know how to play with solid technique. Which should be the first thing he was taught. Idk if he will ever get it. And I was very patient with him up to this year.

I don't think he really worked at it. Like I said he hardly ever practiced and expected to get by on just talent. After being humbled/benched I'm hoping it opened his eyes that you have to really work to be good. I just think he needs to be pushed to be dedicated and with this coaching staff he is going to have to or he'll be gone.

I'd rather have Sterling Moore and Patmon than Carr and Claiborne period. Not even taking salary into consideration. I have seen Carr's future and it looks identical to Newman's performance last night against the Broncos. Claiborne can thank his lucky stars for a guaranteed contract.
