Would You Be Good with Carr Returning after Paycut?

I think we move on from Carr. We definitely snag another CB in the draft, but not until later.

DL early.

Claiborne has guaranteed money next year but I hear you. That was my thought as well that we need DE, DT, OLB and could use competition at WR, OL, and S. Adding CB as a stark need to that seems like a lot to deal with
We seem set at LB right now. So much so that carter will be gone. I'd put corner ahead of OLB. As long as Durant is back were good there.

This is a good question, I mean he's average to above average. He's not worth what they're paying him though. I'd be all for paying another mercenary at corner but it's not really worth if we're gonna get the same thing from car and not upgrade the position at all. I REALLY hope they draft a DE and take steps to improve the pass rush. I like what we have in the interior and I'm not near ready to give up on Lawrence. Maybe with a pay cut and and an improved pass rush Carr could do better here.

Durant has been hurt for the last two years and is like 230 lbs. Lee is a bit better at 240 but you want him out in space and not taking on blocks either. Hitchens has short arms and needs to get stronger if he is going inline. Wilber got soft on the edge this year otherwise I would be happy but I don't see us having anyone that can play the position and stay healthy.

I don't put it high in priority because it is a 2 down position and without Carr corner is a much higher priority. it's right up there with DE. I'm warming to the idea of trying to get Hardy if Carolina lets him go.

I'm thinking that for further transition, that Carr, Claiborne, and Moore are all relevant adds again.

I think at best he will be an average deep to intermediate zone player but he is very good man to man player. His play in the short zone has been very good lately. He has done a great job taking on outside runs, bubble screens, and other horizontal throws.

Now I get he is not worth the $9m that he scheduled but if he were to cut that 60% to around $4m a la Doug Free, I think he would be worth that. FA corners that are going to be available at that price are not going to be much if any better than Carr and the market for Carr himself is not likely to be higher.

I'm good with that idea. As long as the team will allow him to play to his strengths. Then I would consider shifting some of that money to Moore on the other side.

As you said, you font want to add yet another defensive need by releasing him outright.

I just hope he would be open to such a paycut.

I really think he doesn't get what he doesn't get. At one point I thought he would be better as a FS and now I don't even see that. Sometimes you have to either fish or cut bait...I've got the scissors out.

I really don't know. I don't think he has been quite as bad a people think, but I don't really see him getting much better.

There are probably 6 to 8 free agent CBs that are likely better but there is some advantage to Carr in that he has been in this scheme for 2 years.

Originally, I thought people were over-hyping Moore, but I'm beginning to think he is better than Carr. I love how he stripped a certain TD from the Colts TE the other day and how he hit the WR at the line so hard (in the chest) that it appeared that he hit him in the face.

The biggest problem is that they most likely have to decide on Carr before free agency because if they want a shot at a free agent CB they need to be ready from the git-go.

I would be. He's not great, but if we cut him, we are in a deep hole at CB. That would mean we would NEED to draft a CB high and/or pay big money for a FA. I don't know the FA landscape this offseason, but I don't think there are any can't miss guys. Odds are we'd end up with someone similar to Carr and have to spend another boatload of cash.

If a guy falls to us at CB in the draft then we can draft him, but I'd like options. Without Carr on the team, we'd be in a serious bind at both DE and CB. Odds aren't good since we'll be picking 32nd ( ;) )
