Would you be mad if one of our players did this?

It's my opinion. I don't hang with the enemy, and that's how I roll if I'm a coach. You can do otherwise if you'd like.

Certainly. I only meant to ask that you clarify your opinion. I'm just curious why it bothers folks. Not looking to pick a fight or anything.

Timing is everything...and this isn't something I'd be bothered about. Especially since it's clear these guys hang and are genuinely fond of each other outside the game.

They don't hate each other like the fans want them, too.

So, no I wouldn't be mad at them hanging out the day before the game.

Not sure why anyone is shocked. They are all friends. Fans hate the other team and other team fans but the players don't hate each other.

Hell, they get in those prayer circles after games too.

I noticed like never before how warmly players of different teams greeted each other after the games yesterday.

I want my guys to have an edge...to compete hard...but the notion of 'enemy'? I don't know.

Not particularly, no. I'm sometimes MORE competitive with my friends than I am with strangers.

By the way, I'm pretty sure I remember reading Roy Williams (Safety) and Donovan McNabb were pretty tight, so much as to hang out when they played each other.

Would you be mad if Dez or Zeke did this?

I would. This is largely what's wrong with the league these days.
On one hand, change is good sometimes. On the other hand, competitive sports loses some of its luster in a kumbaya environment. NFL, NBA, MLB. Tennis. Doesn't matter.

During yesteryear, observers "knew" players battled each other partly over preceived notions of adversarial loyalty. Those perceptions have slowly eroded bit by bit every year. I believe sports fans are left hoping athletes' motivations to be the best they can be will be enough and prevent the spirit of games from becoming truly hollow in nature.

It's a different league Social media has made them all humanized to each other

Remember when scandrick asked vick to sign some gloves after a loss and cowboys fans heads exploded

It's not just social media. There are more combines, football camps, etc. These guys get to know each other, play on the same teams, etc. It's hard to hate a guy when you've play with them or you're competing for the same goal.

I don't think it was as abundant in years past as it is today.
Interestingly, my son played 7on7 football with a team that included guys from different Southeastern states. We played against some of those guys during high school football, and the tone was different because they played with each other during the summer.

I personally have no problem with the new approach. It's not like guys are not going to hit you or not going to do their best because they hang out to eat. They're professional enough not to divulge team secrets.

for a lot of guys it brings out the competitiveness in them to be so close to their peers all year. Learning how each other trains and what have you.

I always wondered, if everything we see in sports was the same. With the only difference being no one got hurt and there was Zero danger.(however this is accomplished computer simulation whatever) would everyone still care as much? Do I need to watch the UFC knowing one guy is scared to death in order to enjoy it? Or is the sport itself fun enough on its own?

Wouldn't bother me at all. Players are friends and tend to have a tremendous amount of respect for each other. I don't think it changes how anyone plays the game one bit. I find it hilarious when people say "this is the problem with today's game! back in MY day opponents were way nastier to each other!" Na. It makes no difference. More is visible now.

This is not the same league I grew up with.

Who knows if he is telling the truth, but Hollywood Henderson said the night before the Super Bowl, he and some teammates did coke with some steelers players. I think hanging out with other teams players has always occured.

I don't have a problem with what players do on their off time as long as it doesn't hurt the team, i.e. breaking the law or rules... what I would have a problem with is my WR smiling and clapping as the other team scores. That would send me into a fit of rage.

It's kind of funny when you stop and think about it.

We criticize the NFL for any move that takes away from the game being any fun...to the point of calling it the NFL aka No Fun League.

Yet two good friends that spend a good deal of the offseason working out in a program together get together the night before a game and have fun and we act like it is a terrible thing...or a bad thing if terrible is to turrible.

It is not like it used to be in the old days where every player on one team hated another team due to it being a rivalry.

Many of these players either played together in college, spent a good deal of time together in pre-draft programs or spend time in programs during the offseason...in other words they are friends. They are also fans of each other and you see them swapping Jerseys after games where I doubt we seen that happening back in the day.

Different era...just because we have special loathing for a team we consider our rival, it does not mean the players or the teams always feel that way .

Heck many of us know the history of our team, the rivalries history or history of many different teams in the NFL with all pro guys, hall of fame guys and so on yet many of these guys come into the league only knowing a few guys that are playing while they started in high school or college.

What they do outside the walls of the stadium I don't really care about. What does bug me is swapping jerseys right after the game on the field. That bugs me for some reason.

Maybe, if one were offense and the other defense and I thought it would make one of them go easier on the other.
