Would you draft Sly Williams at 18 or trade down?

The "chatter" by the "experts" seems to think that only Sly Williams will be available at 18 with the top OL gone and Vaccaro as well.

Personally i hope we don't take Vaccaro even if he is there. i'd be all for Sly Williams but i don't think No. 18 should be a bench/rotation player.

We should trade down for an extra 3rd and 5th if we could and build great depth.

Why would Williams be a bench/rotation player? He'd walk into Dallas the best DT on the roster.

Definitely starting day 1, although I'm guessing they do A LOT of rotating especially inside.

I like him a lot. Between him, Ware and Hatcher they could do wonders for that defense.

Yes, and you want a strong rotation on the d-line. Even if he rotates with Hatcher and Rat this year, he'll should be easily the best tackle going forward for 2014 and beyond. He'd be a great fit for this defense.

If he's there and the best player on the board, we'd better take him at 18, because I can't see him lasting much longer than 18.

"Cause alot of people here think we have great DT depth, that Hatcher is a pro bowler and Ratliff still is and isn't injury prone.

As it stands, Hatcher is the only legit starter at DT. A quality player. Definitely not Pro Bowl level.

FWIW, this a pretty weak standard nowadays when JAGs can get in to the Pro Bowl.

An unknown at DT. Making a switch from DE to DT. No one knows how he will play at DT.

We played many four-man sets last year where IIRC Hatcher was inside. Ware and Spencer aren't sure things either in a 4-3 if you want to be completely fair about it.

If I could trade down to like 21 with Cincy then I'd definitely feel more comfortable with drafting him then.

Ya, but Hatcher didn't exclusively play in a 4-3 for an entire game. I don't care about a few plays here and there. And yes, I have said that about Ware/Spencer too. Making their switch. No one knows.

That's right. The best in the draft for help. Just not to ignore DT completely.

I think you're underestimating Sly Williams a bit. They upgrade that dline both short and long term with him

more i see Sly, more i think about it, more i like the idea of him wearing the star. As long as Jerry doesn't do any dealing and sticks with the 18th pick, i'm loving our draft options this year.

I could live with it if we pick Williams but I'm hoping we get a really good offer to trade down instead. There could be teams wanting our pick to jump up and take Patterson or Nassib.

If both guards Cooper and Warmack are off the board, and DT Richardson is gone as well, then yeah I'd be good with Williams.
