Twitter: Would you rather have Clowney or Miller

Miller. They have enough pass rusher types they need to see how it plays out.
Regular LB’s they need help. Unless a few surprise and step up.

Ok. I’m not as hung up on the word usage. But if you prefer hope, we can go with that.

That’s my point. “What he has been” hasn’t been as bad as you’re making it seem.

If I got 4.5 sacks out of him in a rotational role playing 28% of the time, I’d be fine with it.
Well, grammatically, hope and expect are two very different words. They simply don't mean the same thing.

Hasn't been as bad isn't the standard I really look for in a player. I'd rather try to get better. But it is what it is. He's what we've got, so I hope for the best.

I don't think Miller really is a great pass rusher now, but I don't know if we even have a very good one. I think you've got to have someone who can regularly get pressure and force extra attention. Pressure is more important than sacks, and usually allows other players to get free for sacks.

Dallas had 34 sacks last year compared to 47 sacks for Seattle last year. You've got to create pressure and the less you have to blitz to do that, the better. You want to be creative, but if you have to be creative, you're in trouble.
They had about the same sacks last year but Clowney had less snaps

Lol.

Dude was drafted first overall and quickly became a journeyman lineman playing for 7 teams in 12 years.

That's a bust for the first pick in the draft.
Some march to the beat of their own drummer. Observing his career, he has done what he wanted when he wanted. And is still around 12 years later. Disappointment is fair; bust is not. one second Team All Pro and 3 Pro Bowls does not a bust make

And that's fair to note. I wouldn't mind having Clowney back. He was our best pass rusher last year. I just feel that Miller has a better track record. Of course, he is older, too, so it's hard to say his body hasn't reached the point where the returns are going to get worse.

Miller played in 17 games (three starts), had 10 blitzes, 4 QB hurries, 4 QB knockdowns, 0 batted passes, 9 sacks and 19 pressures. He played 420 snaps.

Clowney played in 13 games (six starts), had 2 blitzes, 12 hurries, 1 knockdown, 4 batted passes, 8.5 sacks, and 22 pressures. He played 373 sacks.

So Clowney's numbers were better overall when you take into account he played fewer snaps. I would have re-signed Clowney after last season. Based on the last few years, though, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't want to sign anywhere until training camp is almost over.

in todays NFL what is a situational pass rusher? If we are ahead by a touchdown or less with 2 minutes to go how effective is a guy going to be that only plays 10-20 snaps when he has to go all out for the last 2 minutes?
Well tested?

I think they want to see what they got in the young players. Both will likely be there well into camp

Redo that draft, and he goes much later in that draft.
