In other words, if he was willing to accept a three-year $7-8M per........

Mailbag: Will RB Pushback Affect Pollard Deal?

_With Saquon Barkley threatening to sit out and Dalvin Cook looking for a "significant contract," there seems to be some pushback among NFL running backs about their perceived lack of value. Do you think this affects the Cowboys working out a multi-year contract with Tony Pollard? Are we looking at a one-and-done season for him and the team? _– Tony Washington/San Diego, CA
Nick Eatman:
Can't say I've really thought of it that way, but you're not wrong. That's how things in the league usually work. Agents know what other agents are doing and teams know what other teams are doing. Therefore, running backs probably know what other backs are doing, and certainly, what they're getting paid. But honestly, I think the only way the Cook and Barkley situations – which are obviously very different – would affect Pollard, would be in the Cowboys' favor

Probably not. He'll be 27 when next season starts. I'd rather tag him again for the 2024 season than bind myself to him long term, given that 28 seems to be the age at which most RBs hit the wall.

Truthfully, my first preference would be to let him walk. RB is a young man's position. TP has been very good but he's mostly used up.

Absolutely! Right away sign him.

Team owners need to do the same to QBs. $30 mil/year is not good enough? QBs are being astronomically greedy and hurting teams.

You have commitment issues.

No, they should not have tagged him for $10 million. However, now, let him have a decent season, and get a comp pick for him next year.
Draft a RB.
I mean that is what I see on here all the time. NEVER pay a RB or give them a 2nd contract.

A five year, Hell no, but for a short two year or three year deal at 6-7 million a season I'd have no problem with for Pollard...

I would have taken a RB in the second round of this years loaded draft class and let him be my starter next year with Deuce. I’d have Pollard, rookie RB and Deuce this year and that RB and Deuce on rookie deals for the next 3 years. But we got an average TE instead so I guess that’s great……

I think yes depending on how he performs as a lead back without the Elliot spotlight

It's what should be the compromise if he has a decent agent. RBs careers are so short he should be wanting 2 1/2 years of guaranteed money over the bigger one year amount at $10 million.

5 mil a year would be my maximum depending on this year ....... he broke his leg last year ...... there is a chance he will not be the same.

No. Never give a running back more than their rookie salary. It was stupid to give him the franchise tag.
I been saying this.. Why would he sign a market deal now, knowing he's getting 10 million just this year.. He broke the speed record signing the franchise tag..
