If I were to tell you that you can have these final stats for Kyle Orton on Sunday night, would you sign up right now?

15 of 26. 190 yards. 2 TD. 1 INT. Sacked 2x.

I would take the deal. We would need some turnovers from the defense and our running game to work when we actually need it to (which I'm highly skeptical of), but I'm afraid of what I would get if I opened up my Orton suitcase and it had 5 sacks and 3 interceptions in it.

Having said that, I expect Kyle to be closer to the good than the bad either way. He's capable.

Nicely said. I think the key number in the above stat line is the 26 attempts. If he ends up only throwing 26 times, it SHOULD mean the running game is working to some extent and they are sticking with it. I would sign for this too. I'm curious about what others think.

LOL not the question young man. The question is would you take this from Orton? I'm thinking you WOULD take this, but I am asking for clarity.

Did we win?

Come on and play along bro. I am trying to get a handle on peoples' expectations for Orton. And your answer is important as I always read your posts and feel you have a very good handle on things.

Yes, I would take that stat line for a QB that has not taken a live snap in over 2 years.......................however that is not going to be enough to beat the Eagles.

Yes I will take that. Solid night for a rusty backup QB for sure. Limited turnovers.

I hope that Murray will have turned in a 150 yard game for 2-3 TDs. Maybe a FG. Some form of a respectable defense to go along with those Orton numbers. Maybe some good field position from our special teams. However, with nothing known, yes I'd take that from Orton.

Thanks for the answer and thoughts. Yeah, as I was laying out the scenario, I was thinking..."this better come with a Demarco Murray big game".

Indeed, I think that's the only way we have a shot. I mean, at GB they ran wild but rejected the running game completely after the first half Then we finally ran it steadily vs Washington. So if that trend continues, we should get a heavy dose of Murray, especially now that Orton is at the helm. We gotta make him the bus driver and hope he can deliver some Alex Smith-like production. Efficient, doesn't try to make the big plays but can make some when necessary and relies on the running game.

At the end of the Skins game, that was an 87-yard drive on which Romo passed for 93 yards and Murray ran for -6. Obviously, we'll need to get an early lead, and somehow maintain it. Also, the OL has to do a much better job of run blocking in the red zone than they did in that last game.

The defense could hold Philly to 24 points, Orton could exceed all expectations, Murray could have 170 yards, and we might still lose because we couldn't finish off drives and then couldn't come from behind.

Percy you are another guy with superb posts all the time...I'd be interested in knowing your thoughts....would you sign on the dotted line for the above Orton stats?

I would. Like mentioned above 26 attempts translates to close game, not trying to catch up. Probably also means running game is working. That or Orton got Injured and didn't finish game

I'd say what that other guy said, basically. The stat line you posted would give Orton a 90.2 rating, which won't be enough without some real magic from special teams and the running game. Defense gives up a 94.9 rating on average anyway, and Foles has played well above average.

Did we win?

Good question!!

I posted else where about how the Cowboys can win and it does not look like the above results.

"
OK, what ever you are smoking or drinking, please pass it around! We have had in the pass QB come off the bench and win a game. However, they always had an offense and defense to help. In this case, it was Romo who made the offensive line look descent passing with his scrambling. The defense has not been good since the beginning of the year and there is no reason to assume they are going to stop the Eagles offense. So, to win the Cowboys are going to have to run the ball 100% of the time and score every time they have the ball. The defense will have to come up with two (2) turn overs, the special teams will have to put the team in favorable field position every time.

There you go, the winning strategy for the Cowboys."

I could see something similar to the stat line provided by the OP....the eagles will bring pressure, pressure and more pressure....so, I can see short dump offs, especially early...and, if they stack the box, look for some 1-on-1 match-ups on the outside....gotta hit on those....

Waters came in and played extremely well after being out for almost 2 years, why can't Orton do well after not having played in a real game for about as long?
