I wouldn’t. I think Peppers is on his last leg. I also still want to see what Spencer and Carpenter can do with a starting spot.

i would trade carpenter for peppers but not spencer,
first peppers is like 30 years old, he has maybe 3 years left,
whereas spencer has about 9 years left;

nope wouldnt trade spencer in the deal

Trade Bobby Carpenter and Anthony Spencer to Carolina for Julius Peppers? (Assuming, of course, that he would re-do his contract?)

If you were Carolina would you trade Pepper to Dallas for Carpenter and Spencer? When you look at it from their point of view the answer presents itself. :laugh2:

He might be worth Bobby Carpenter now straight up... or Spencer after 2 years in this system....

its not plug and play folks....

So how long has Peppers played outside Linebacker....

oh thats right he hasn't = X

He will have the strongside negating his greatest asset = another X

wants a Big contract = another X

just giving it passing thought I think I could give about 10 reasons as to why it would be a silly thing to do...

Bobby atleast plays special teams (not very good ) but still...

Spencer if word about him being the toughest guy to block is true than... I just don't see the need of giving away a good strong side guy for another weakside guy (who just might or might not be able to play the position)

If we were running a 4-3 defense then I would do it in a heartbeat as Peppers is an outstanding 4-3 DE.

But since we are running a 3-4 defense... No thank you. Peppers has never played a 3-4 OLB and even though he is an excellent athlete it takes time to make that transition. That would be a lot of money and time to invest in a guy that is declining.

I would prefer to stick with Spencer and use our cap space to re-sign Ware.

First off Carolina would have to be idiots to make this trade. Basically you're saying they'd be willing to trade Peppers, a proven player who has at LEAST 4 years left in him at a high level (he hasn't even turned 30 years old yet, I believe he's 6 months away from that) for a guy who, while he has potential, hasn't really shown yet that he would be able to replace a guy like Peppers as a teams main pass rushing specialist.

Nah, I don't think this is even good enough an idea to be consider a pipe dream. Which is, not to mention, you're talking about trading an OLB in a 3-4 for a DE in a 4-3. So now you're going to take the 2 years that Spencer spent in Dallas, learning the 3-4, and throw that away to now teach him how to play 4-3 end in the pros?

Yeah...Carolina would be making one of the dumbest moves ever with this idea.

So, in short, if Carolina were willing to be that stupid then, yes, I'd make that deal in a heartbeat.

I think a guy with his physical abilities would have no problem playing strong side OLB in our scheme.

I mean... Ellis did it and Peppers is way more physically gifted.

He's also shown in Carolina that he can do a good job at dropping into passing lanes and make a play.

I agree. Peppers is extremely agile and has shown he can drop back in coverage and I think he would be effective making a transition into a 3-4 and it would not be a major issue. Having said this it makes no difference because this trade is not going to take place. It reminds me of a lot of other one sided trades fans think up. Spencer may or may not develop into a quality player the book is still out with Peppers he is an established pro bowl player. I will not even put Carpenter into the conversation as potential trade bait.

In my Madden franchise I'd do that trade in a milisecond however I'd more than likely have to turn the force trade option on because even Madden has standards.

In reality we couldn't afford Peppers so it's a moot point unfortunately.

You guys kill me.

First off, consider the contract that Carolina has offered Peppers for all of ONE year? $16.7 million!! Do you honestly think Carolina is DUMB ENOUGH to RENT a player for that kind of money?? I'm sure that Carolina and Peppers have a gentleman's agreement that said, 1) sign the tender; 2) we'll work out a deal (i.e. TRADE) before the start of the season.

Second, Peppers held off on signing the deal until almost the Franchise Tag deadline was reached. In other words, he was RELUCTANT to sign a GUARANTEED TENDER of $16.7 million if he is on the squad the first game of the season. Who in their right mind would be reluctant to do that - unless, of course, they want out of Carolina at all costs?

If Carolina doesn't want to be on the hook for RENTING a player for $16.7 million, but they went ahead and offered that amount to at least protect their interests in the SHORT TERM, and if Peppers doesn't want to be there at all and RELUCTANTLY signed the deal with the anticipation that a trade would be worked out later in the summer, AND he wants to go to a 3-4 team, it seems to me that Carolina would be SMART ENOUGH to at least get 2 starting caliber players in Carpenter and Spencer to get rid of the cap hit and the player who doesn't want to be there in the first place.

no I woudln't, peppers is older and we don't yet know what we have on either of those players.

But I know enough about spencer to say I want him on the team for a while.

I wonder if we could trade carpenter for dexter coakley?

When did Carpenter become a starting caliber player?
