Fletcher Cox is light years better than any DL that would be available at 27. I would say yes before the offer could be rescinded.

If it's true they're looking to move Fletch, this adds more support to my theory that Chip Kelly is a secret Cowboys fan. He real gud.

He's worth much more than #27 and I doubt Dallas would even be considered...but I'm all for signing him next year.

He is in the last year of his rookie deal at 1.75m, PHI hasn't picked up his fifth year option yet for 8m.

If they do, he could then be franchised for 1 or 2 years. So it would be like a 3yr/22m or a 4/37m deal with nothing guaranteed.

That would be worth the 27th in my opinion for a player like Cox.
Wow, so 2-3 million per expected sack (and that's assuming he'd be a full-time 3-tech, which he wouldn't). Yuck.

Just FYI:

Times touching the QB (sacks + QB hits) per pass rush in 2014:

Cox - 1.58%
Hatcher - 3.60%

Cox is playing out of position and dominating would take more than the 27th

I had read in the Walter football draft rumors that the Eagles were looking to trade Fletcher Cox for a chance to get Marcus Mariota. Let's say they give us Cox and a 4th, we give the 27th. Would you do it??

Here is the link to the rumor

He only has 1 year remaining on his contract. They can still pick up the 5th year option but that is basically like a franchise tag.

The value of draft picks are their low salaries. Once they are at the end of their rookie contract then they are just like any other free agent.

First for Cox? yes.

My question is how much longer does he have on his rookie deal and can we afford to give him a contract when it expires???

If we traded for him we would have this season for 1.75m, next year for the 5th year option of 7.9m and a third year of a Franchise tag at DT for another 12m without a long-term deal.

That would compare to a rookie at the 27th pick for 4yrs/8m, with a 5th year option for another 6-8m.

No one we could get in the Draft compares to Cox at DT.

I saw him pushing around our OL and they are pretty good. As a 4-3 DT he would be perfect.

The issue in a trade like this is it is effectively a 1-year rental at low cost with an option to get a second year at a transition tag cost and the opportunity to franchise him thereafter.

But the key to understanding the economics of the deal is that he is really only cheap for a year and then you have to pay him as a top player in the league. That's not an issue for a team with tons of cap space but it does become an issue for a team like us that is pushing up against the top of the cap who already have in essence a top paid QB, top paid WR, top paid DE and top paid LT. You can only fit so many top contracts at once on your roster before you are strangling your ability to field a competitive roster across the board.

So if I'm looking at this deal I'm only doing it if I can extend Crawford for a reasonable deal and if I know that I'm probably going to let Hardy walk after this year if Cox plays like he did last year.

I would do it in a second, but I think the thinking is that they would make a deal with Tennessee for the # 2 pick for Cox and their #20 pick. The Titans get a great young proven DT and still have a pick in the first round.

The Titans have already been linked to DT Leonard Williams, but a trade with the Eagles could get them Fletcher Cox and allow them to fill another need in the 1st round.
