With all the bickering going on here how we salary cap-strapped, how we're AWEFULLY QUIET in FA, how this and that, etc...

Even despite busting their tails to get under the cap, the Skins still can barely only manage to resign their backup QB, and that is ALL.

The Giants let 3 of their key defensive players walk without a fight.

And last, but not least, the Eagles lost their minds and threw away $20m in guaranteed money to some overrated, albeit system corner.

It's bad for us? Really-it could be ALOT worse!:)

i sometimes wonder to myself if Samuels would have been over-rated if we had picked him up ... lol

I certainly think that Samuels benefited from a very experienced and savvy NE defense, but something to keep in mind is that the Patriots play a VERY complex scheme that relies on a multitude of coverage schemes and abilities. You can't just be a zone cover guy or a man cover guy in NE.

Rhonde Barber is a scheme CB. He suites the Tampa 2 scheme very well by keeping everything in front of him and breaking on the ball. I don't think he would be anywhere near the same CB in a man press scheme. Barber is the perfect example of a scheme CB. Samuel? Not so much. The guy can play. I'm not shaking in my boots thinking "OMG what are we going to do against the mighty Samuel?". The guy can be had. But 16 INTs over the last two seasons is nothing to scoff at regardless of what scheme you are playing. If getting those numbers were easy, then EVERY "scheme CB" would be getting them. The reality is that they are not, where Samuel has.

Can someone name a player that was considered great when he played for NE, than left NE in free agency and was considered just as great for the next team he played for?

The only player close was Branch. Who is just finally turning it around in Seattle.

Ty Law had 11 picks in his last 3 years at New England and in his 3 years after he left he has 16 picks

But swapping Samuel for Sheppherd is not that big of an upgrade. In fact, I see this whole thing as a wash out.

They should have took that $20 mill signing bounus and gave it to Moss if they were serious about winning a ring.

Their WRs still suck, Samuel cant help with that.

OK..............We have one player, any more?

I think it has a bit to do with the fact that New England knows when it's time to cut a guy loose. That certainly can't account for every player to leave NE, but I think it factors in.

I'm not saying Samuels isn't any good, but we've seen lots of "great" players leave NE via free agency and then we never hear about them again, like they just disappear along with their new teams money.

I think Deion Branch is at the top of that list. Talk about top of the world to straight to the crapper. In fairness, he hasn't been HORRIBLE in Seattle, but he sure as heck hasn't looked like a Super Bowl MVP. Of course, Larry Brown never lived up to that hype either.

Two very good examples, but especially Branch. I remember the hype when he left NE, then nothing.

This season it was very easy most of the time for Samuels since just about every team was multiple TDs behind by the second half. How many easy picks did he get then?

The Giants have replacements in place for two of the starters who were let go. Michael Johnson will replace Wilson and showed a lot of promise. Gerris Wilkinson will replace Kawika Mitchell and filled in nicely when Mitchell was hurt for two games. The contract those two guys got were crazy and I'm glad the Giants didn't match. As far as Torbor, he was an adequate starter but definitely replaceable. The problem is, there is no one on the roster right now to replace him.

These were not devestating losses. I'm glad the Giants didn't pay $39 million for 6 years for Wilson. That is crazy.

It isn't like the Giants lost one of their DLinemen which is the only position (along with Pierce) where there are irreplaceable guys (although they still could if Strahan retires).

Brandon Lloyd. After your debut album sells less than 200 copies you can afford to be cut by a team and take the big *** bonus they gave you to build your little recording studio in your basement.
