The player doesn’t have a choice where he’s going. It’s a steep price compensation wise, but he was going to get offered a multi-year deal, albeit for less AAV, in free agency. Texans can part company clean after just one season.

My guess ........ maybe their research suggested he was going to have a strong market. A bidding war on the open market would have cost them more vs getting him for 1 year ( only 7th rounder ) and deciding later if he's worth a long-term extension. I can see the advantages of only a 7th rounder. Not to mention, it appears Dells will miss all of 2025.
