WR corps (Not a TO thread)

Ok...here's my take on the Cowboys current receiver corps. Terry Glenn is a great homerun guy, but his health is a concern each season and we need to establish the running game to open him up deep. Let's face it, Glenn isn't big enough to be able to go across the middle like a Terrell Owens and come down with the ball after getting hit. That is where the TO fix comes into play. Dallas signs TO, allowing Glenn to work the deep field and allow Owens to work the slants and across the middle with the potential to break a tackle and go the distance. Keyshawn is a great possesion guy, but face it if Dallas signs Owens it makes no sense to keep Keyshawn because Owens can do everything Keyshawn does and he's a much better and faster receiver. Witten will be a force for years to come, but when the O-line became injury plagued Dallas was forced to keep their TEs home to block, so a healthy O-line will equal another season of big receiving numbers for Witten. Crayton is developing into a nice #2 option, but not quite ready to be a #2 yet. He has to learn to be more protective of the ball when he's getting tackled. Copper is consistently overweight, if he would get serious about his conditioning he would see more playing time on offense rather than just being a special teams guy.

How did I know you would respond. Shouldnt you be on your way home from work about now. Geez. :)

Been off the last two days, LOL...

So doesnt that mean that younger potentially good WRs would be a top priority.

Ideally, yes... you know of any out there??

The Cowboys need the best of both worlds though, solid youth infused wuth their current talent.

I couldn't agree more... unfortunately, the free agent WR market wasn't too exciting this year, and neither are the draft prospects... so for the short term, bring in another vet... then draft a WR on the first day, and yeah, I'd think about drafting a WR early on next year too... sooner or later, you'd have to replace Glenn, Moulds and Johnson, but you might be able to get another coupla productive years out of that trio first...

Guess you dont remember the payback from the Monday night game. ;)

What Monday night game?? :D

silverbear, I gave some other options. Not to mention Walker. Sneaky, sneaky.

As usual WG, Nice post/response. I agree that TO is easily one of the most productive WRs in the history of the NFL (so I may not agree with many Cowboys fans wanting him, I understand why they would), I just dont see a win-win situation for the franchise overall.

The Cowboys are getting older at OL, WR, QB (and no I dont think twice about Henson, and Romo). Some youth either through FA or the draft seems to be very important.

Robinson and Randle El would not be particularly attractive options for the Cowboys... they're just not that big an upgrade over what's currently on hand, other than their age... now, I wouldn't have minded if the Boys made a play for Randle El, but that was more for what he offers in the return game, and he went for a ridiculously high price... I wouldn't touch Walker, there's no sense giving away draft picks when it's pretty clear that in a year or so, he'll be an unrestricted free agent... I can't see giving up draft picks for a guy who has had one good year in the league...
