WR order

It can, but he's got to do it first before we know for sure. I think he can, but that really doesn't mean much until it actually happens.

Have you forgot what he did last year in the real season before injury?

Someone is taking preseason games way to serious.

yes.. preseason has nothing to do with evaluating the play of young players..... seeing if they make the most of their chances or if they can play in this league..... oh.. wait.. no.. thats exactly what preseason is for.. my mistake...or rather, your mistake.

for any argueing that austin adds a different dimension that tree doesn't..
they are both about the same size, so lets compare their combine numbers..

Austin
40- 4.47
vert- did not participate
3 cone drill- did not participate
broad- 10.3
20yd shuttle- 4.14

Ogletree
40- 4.46
vert- 36-
3 cone drill- 6.67 4th best at combine
broad- 10.2
20yd shuttle- 4.08 (best of all WR at combine)

statistically they are very similiar. tree is just as fast if not a bit faster.
and has shown to be more consistent, and has better hands..
we have been talking about how great it would be if we could combine hurd and austin's strengths.. we might have found that guy..

Cant remember who said it, but on a couple of occassions our announcers said they firmly believed Ogletree has moved up far enough to the point hat he will be a contributor THIS yr as a WR.

He got snaps with the starters not only in 3 WR sets, but also on some 2 WR set plays.

You are talking about the #4 and #5 WR's is all I was trying to point out. Guys who won't see the field much in the regular season.

they very well could, you never know... i could see ogletree contributing this year if something happens.

If Ogletree can step up, that puts Crayton at his natural position... that will be a good thing!

Thank Jerry for undrafted free agents!

1.RW
2.Crayton
3.Hurd
4.Ogletree
5.Austin

Ogletree is good.He runs sharp routes and gets OPEN.Austin is ok.

I agree with this.

Ogletree makes the roster. Stanback probably sealed his fate with the late fumble.

Ogletree looked very good in his first team reps tonight. Austin made a couple of nice catches but also had some plays that looked pretty bad. I think there is something to be said for the fact that Ogletree was basically playing the role of #3 WR tonight.

That is the point I was trying to make... We need to start playing smarter football if we hope to have a chance and Austin for whatever reason just makes boneheaded plays far too often for a 4th year guy. At some point we will have to come to the conclusion that Austin isn't going to advance beyond a certain point...I believe that point has come for Austin...I think he is a guy with good speed with only fair hands and fair football understanding.
I would be very surprised if he goes beyond that. We as fans have a tendency to overrate the talent on the team...but I think I have this one right.

The good news is that Ogletree looks able to take over without much dropoff while he learns the position

Here's my take from being at the game and seeing the whole field: Ogletree's speed doesn't show up in a big way on the field...no better than Hurd or Crayton, IMO. Romo was looking for Ogletree as his first option many times, yet only 2 completions.

Miles Austin had to run ridiculous deep routes, time after time and Romo rarely even looked to that side of the field... I estimate that Austin was open at least 60% of the time and if he was the number one read/option on any particular play, chances are it would have been successful because he usually had separation.

Austin talked to Ray Sherman quite a bit between plays so I'm guessing he didn't know Roy's position that well, which probably explains some of the not so hot moments. Let's remember that Roy only got hurt Thursday late in practice. Austin and Romo haven't had any time to get their timing down with Austin as the #1...remember how long it's taken Romo and Roy to click.

All in all, our receivers did well. Romo just screwed the pooch trying to force it to Ogletree, who was never open on that route.

Great input thanks...

but it still worries me... last week also when they had Sherman miked up.. Austin didn't know he was suppose to be the X rec. And again if Romo threw it to Austin how confident would you be that he catches it.

Hey Zax, I understand you have some kind of axe to grind against Austin but the same thing is true this preseason as last year: Every time I watch him, he seems to be open. Your argument that he doesn't have good football knowledge would seem to fall apart in that light. I mean he is open almost every time he runs down the field. I will agree that his hands are a little suspect but my thinking is that he is one of those people that needs to build confidence that he can do it in a game. He started to do it last year before he got hurt and he is doing it again this preseason. I just don't think you can throw him the 60 yard bomb his first play of the game. He needs to work out the butterflies so to speak. I like him and I like Ogletree. I just don't see any reason to get rid of Austin or demote him.

Austin looked like a #1 to me last night. He had a couple missteps, but he sure looked good to me.

I understand what you are saying gentlemen but the cowboys will have to decide at the end of this year if Austin gets a long term contract...To me I just don't think he has done enough to merit it. To me (and it maybe only to me)after 4 yrs in the league he should be ready to start and he just dosen't seem to be able to...I have no axe to grind with Austin but I do not want a guy taking a roster spot if we can possibly get better.

I hope when the season starts......Austin and Ogletree will be our KR.

I think we should keep Crayton as our PR, at least until Felix gets completely comfortable with the job.
