Sigh...okay...I'll ask...what rumors?

We all know The Rock is slated to face John Cena this Sunday at WrestleMania 28. However, The Rock is also committed to appear at next year’s WrestleMania as well, and in an interview with AP Sports Writer Dan Gelston, Rocky was asked about possibly facing ex-Undisputed WWE Champion / retired UFC Champion Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 29 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The article states:

Johnson has committed to appearing at next year’s WrestleMania at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. In what role, he hasn’t said.
It’s clear if the WWE wants to squeeze another potential blockbuster buy rate out of the Rock, the last man standing to get the headline match would be the return of former WWE and UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.

How about it: Brock vs. Rock at WrestleMania 29?

“I’m not saying a thing,” said a laughing, grinning Rock, eyebrow raised. “I didn’t say anything.”

The Rock silenced. That’s a first.

In addition to that tidbit, the article covers Rock’s movie career, why he came back to WWE and why John Cena had to be his opponent:

The Rock, who rose to stardom in the wrestling business, says there’s nowhere else he’d rather drop The People’s Elbow than in the ring. The Rock returns to the WWE for his first WrestleMania match since 2004 when he headlines the April 1 card against former champion John Cena at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.

For a company once home to Hulk Hogan and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, this bout is as close as it gets to a dream match. Catchphrase-chanting, die-hard pro wrestling lovers are revved up about the return of The Great One. Casual fans, too.

“I came back to put on the biggest match of all time,” Johnson said. “That’s all I want to do. There’s no one I can do that with right now other than John. He’s far and above everyone else in terms of popularity. He’s the guy. Is he Stone Cold? No. Is he Hogan? No. But he is John Cena and he’s been on top for a long time now.”

Johnson reigned in that top spot at the end of the 1990s and the early part of the last decade before embarking on an impressive run in Hollywood. His current film, “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island,” grossed $95 million in its first six weeks domestically and reached $300 million worldwide. His previous movie, “Fast Five,” made more than $210 million in domestic grosses, proving that Johnson knows how to rock the box office.

All that big-ticket drawing power is why the WWE believes he can attract more than a million pay-per-view buys (at $54.95 a pop) in his return singles match.

“They know that I’m back, not for money, not because I like being on the road, but because I love the business,” Johnson said. “The energy level is different this time around, the connection is more emotional this time around.”

Lots of people are speculating that the math vs Cena will end with interference with someone laying both out, the main people being speculated are Batista or Lesnar. Possibly a darkhorse out there like Austin.

If Lesnar deal gets done people speculate he will come out, lay out both and than WM29 will be Lesnar v. Rock. I am going to be attending WM29 so this would be amazing lol

Ugh.

I'd hate that to be honest.

Now I'm all for having Lesnar comeback to wrestling, though I'd honestly be surprised given the fact that he hated the constant travel and thats why he left before, but a year of him building up a WM29 match with the Rock?

Sorry but that would just flat out suck.

I've already seen Rock vs. Brock at Summer Slam a long time ago. If you're going to build something for a year like that it needs to be against someone the Rock has never faced.

I can't believe you just compared tennis to wrestling. Tennis requires more skill, athleticism and focus than just about any real sport. That's intense competition...one on one for hours. I would put wrestling more on par with ballroom...those people are jacked for a reason. They just prefer to rub sweaty against someone in tights from the opposite sex! ;)
And I have no hate for wrestling...but I don't see how it's a sport in all, and frankly I just discounted my ballroom comparison considering one is competitive.

That's great news.

Austin is not coming back he is one DDT/piledriver away from a wheelchair. His neck is worse shape than peyton mannings.

Last things I'd read was the he'd actually been cleared to be able to wrestle on a very limited basis. And he hasn't taken a piledriver in years, not since Owen messed his neck up to begin with, so there is zero worry of that happening.

He will wrestle one more time. I guarantee it.

I attended that SummerSlam. I would love to see Rock vs Brock next year. WWE would love it. The mainstream media would love it. The sports media would love it. It would be the biggest possible matchup WWE will ever be able to produce, and the biggest match in the companies history.

Rock v. Brock on next years card and they can put Santino Marella vs John Cena for the WWE title and it'll break every buy rate record.

Rock v. Brock
Cena v. Punk WWE Title
HHH v. HBK

Save Taker and Austin for 30.

Other than Austin coming out & cutting a promo I really don't have much interest in seeing him wrestle.

I agree with you. A Austin match I have no desire to see but an Austin program and the promos I would love to see.

Oh brother.

Biggest ever?

It wouldn't even come close to touching how big Hogan vs. Rock was. That's just a plain silly statement.

Brock was really good in WWE but he wasn't even in the top 10 best they've ever had there so I'm really not sure how you're inflating anything involving Brock to be the biggest ever for the WWE.

Hell HBK vs. HHH would be FAR bigger than Brock vs. Rock and it's been done a million times. I think you're way over valuing the draw of Brock even with the UFC stuff.

I can easily think of about 10 matches that would be a far bigger draw to me, and possibly to a large majority of WWE fans, involving Rock that have absolutely nothing to do with Brock.

Brock Lesnar vs The Rock would not only have every wrestling fan excited it would have UFC fans intrigued, it would have mainstream pop culture people interested. It would be bigger than wrestling.

Doesn't Lesnar have some serious medical things going on? Stomach wise? I thought I read or heard where he retired from "sports" because he was so sick.

Maybe.

I don't see it.

I can't see a whole lot of UFC fans running over to watch pro wrestling just because Brock Lesnar is part of it.

I give Brock all the respect in the world for what he accomplished in MMA but lets be honest the hardcore MMA fans aren't interested in what he does in pro wrestling because he was an average, at best, heavyweight who benefited a great deal from over powering much smaller heavyweights.

As far as big time matches, dream matches, huge matches for pro wrestling this match wouldn't even touch the bottom run of the Hogan vs. Rock match up.

He's had two bouts with some sort of intestinal problem that kept him out of MMA for two very long stretches.

Agreed.

I like Brock as much as the next guy but I really think his value and importance to both pro wrestling, and even more so to UFC, is being greatly exaggerated here.

LOL.. Naw, not at all man. No worries.

I wasn't slaggin on tennis or golf. I just think that wrestling is right there with them. Well, the tennis was a bit of stretch. I like tennis.

Kinda bummed I am gonna miss what could possibly be the Taker's last match.:bang2:

Thanks for the heads up. I was beginning to think I dreamed that he was sick. Hope he is ok.
