Writers in Houston said No Cowboys will get into HOF.

Aber, are you saying there is no bias against the boys? Just asking cause I was not clear from reading your post.

In the by-laws, it says they are not to consider off field stuff, only on the field performances. Irving should be a 1st ballot by his numbers, his superbowl victories, his on the field leadership. What did he not have that keeps him out of the hall?

Are you of the mind that off-field incidents should play into the voters decision?

I do not think there is clear evidence of bias. Rayfield Wright is the guy most folks point to -- but lots of OL guys got screwed -- it is hard for voters to judge without film and a statistical record (or Madden to tell them who is good).

I think that regardless of what the by laws say, voters will be impacted by off the field issues -- when guys are borderline, they aren't going to get the benefit of the doubt. Really this comes down to a simple problem of human decision making -- there is a ton of research showing that folks just can't ignore information even when explicitly told to do so.

As for what keeps Irvin out of the hall -- and for the record I think he should be in -- I see it more as his early exit from the league -- that puts him in a spot where he doesn't have the most impressive stats -- that makes him borderline in many voters' minds -- and as a borderline guy with "issues" he's not going to get the benefit of the doubt.

Of course, 88's #s are deceptive -- he isn't top 10 in yards (#14) or receptions (#18) -- but the margin between him and the top 10 guys is tiny -- another couple of mediocre seasons and he's well into the top 10 there. Also, he's got a full season of post-season games (16) with he went 87-1314-8 -- to me that should put him over the top.

All of the players that made the 70's all decade team are in the HOF except two......Wright and Cliff Harris.....nuff said :D

That didn't keep Sayers out

CB plays for 14 years. 10 of those years he makes the Pro Bowl. He snares 54 career incerceptions.

In your estimation is he a Hall of Famer?

Should it take 19 years for him to be inducted?

On any other team, he's probably a 1st year inductee. Mel Renfro, the original shut down CB, only played for 1 team. The one there is a bias against.

So over the last 35 years the Cowboys have been to 20% of the Super Bowls?

Shouldn't 20% of the HOF consist of Cowboys? :)

I think the obvious guys like Aikman and Emmitt will get in, and then all the media will incredulously act like there's no anti-Cowboys bias.

We also had a writer from Detroit (Jerry Green), challenge one of our members to a fist fight. Not just any member either, an Officer in the US Navy. No response from the HOF.

I remember that as well.

The guy got real combative and defensive.

Hey, I volunteer to open a can on John "Poindexter" Clayton if he ever gets outta line. Just let me know and I'll take care of him.

Chief gets to Nancy Kerrigan Poindexter should the need arise.

Got it Chief.

Sayers was portrayed in what is widely considered the finest sports movie of all time. I don't think he should be in -- but he was getting some pretty damn good press. Good press vs. bad press. You see how that works yet?

And again, I think if you are looking at the WORST players in the hall as establishing the criteria then you are looking in the wrong place. You need to look at the AVERAGE player in the hall and compare against that yard stick.

As was pointed out- when the only two members of the ALL 70's team not in the Hall are Cowboys- you have to wonder. Then when the only two voted OFF in the final vote are Cowboys- WHICH BY THE WAY HAD NOT HAPPENED BEFORE- you have to wonder some more. Add to that the numbers from teams like the Vikings, Chiefs, etc compared to the Cowboys-ABERSONC- I think you have your head buried in the sand.

The last 2 years the final vote has dumped 3 Cowboys out of the HOF out of 4 players total.

No evidence of bias? Please.
