Wrong to compare this draft to 2009?

We had no immediate, glaring holes.
We drafted BPA for the most part.
We drafted thinking long term, not July 2019.

It is wrong to think that we were looking for backups and role players.

Textbook way to draft if you ask me.

Spent the rest of the time drafting backups/potential future starters and special teams guys.
Hope not. But I see McGovern being inactive all season unless they cut silo
I can see how you'd make that comparison, aside from Hill, no sure thing as far as contributors.

Almost all of the picks have possible starter grades.

Safety is a massive hole. We were a bottom half to third pass defense in part because of safety play.

I don't see safety as a massive hole. Got Heath, Woods, Frazier, and Iloka. I wouldn't call any of those a massive liability right now.

Well, I can kinda see the strategy:

1. Build up both lines (McGovern, Hill, Jackson, Jelk) because the way to win is to be strong in the trenches.
2. Draft running backs who can back up Zeke which includes:
a. A Kamara-like back (Powell) who can provide the lightning to Zeke's thunder and
b. A power back (Weber) who can wear defenses down late in the game
3. Draft a corner from a big program (Jackson) who has size and speed and possibly play him at safety.
4. Give Dak enough weapons on the edge (Gallup, Cooper, Cobb) to be effective in the passing game.
5. Bring back security blanket at tight end (Witten) even if he's neck and neck with Father Time.
6. Give Dak a new offensive coordinator to make this offense less predictable.

At least, that seems to be the plan.

I do not like this draft but McGovern is the one pick I do like.

You took the words right out of my mouth. When we picked Frederick I threw the remote across the room cuz I wanted the safety that was available. I laughed when we picked LVE. I told my brother he'll make us miss barbie carpenter. No clue on Martin, I was just relieved we didn't draft Johnny Manziel. I was pissed when we drafted Jaylon Smith. I figured why draft a guy that can't even play.
But I was so excited when we drafted Felix Jones, Julius Jones, Mike Jenkins and the players @JayFord mentioned, especially Mo.

I think I'll watch some preseason games before I jump for joy or jump of a bridge about these picks.

Lol I remember my friend who’s a skins fan called me laughing saying “dude y’all took a center in the first, y’all took a dude that hikes a ball between his legs lol” I was so mad I told him get off my phone

It's exactly the same, other than:

They didn't trade out of the 2nd round
They drafted players who can immediately contribute
They didn't announce it a "special teams" draft

McGovern is good enough he should easily be our backup inside guy this year.

A lot of this draft is because we have a lot of free agents after this year. Crawford is maybe here 2 more years. Hill can learn and replace him right away after he leaves in a year or two. There's a good chance that Crawford is traded or cut before his last year because of a cap situation. Woods will be a free agent and I'm not sure Dallas will sign him after this year. Collins contract is up after this year. Hill will probably be starting or competing for a starting job by 2020.

Collins is going to want to get paid after next year as a free agent and it sounds like Williams is moving to tackle. And also we have no idea about Frederick now so you have a guy that has a history of playing center and is a solid guard drafted in the 3rd round. Even if he isn't a starter this year he'll play a lot this year and probably start in 2020.

Robert Quinn was only signed to a 1 year deal so you need guys to compete there to take that spot.

Look at the positions we got and you see a lot of these guys aren't there after next year.

Need 3 yrs to judge a draft class.

If 50% or more of this class is still on the roster, it’s a great draft.

If not, then you know it’s bustville.

No one had a good 2009 Draft except maybe DET..... worst NFL Draft ever

Matt Stafford, Clay Matthews and Lesean McCoy are it for the whole league..... the whole Draft

It was a great year to have no 1st or 2nd rounders....... people always forget this part

DAL was smart trading for ACooper ..... this draft didn't have any WRs as good as he was and we got him a year early

I would add to that and the team is a contender. There are a lot of <average and average players in the NFL. There is not one position that they can fill with 32 quality players in the entire league. They take the best college has to offer and hold onto some players too long because college doesn't have enough to offer.

I did not and do not consider this a good draft for the NFL and thought the talent levels were low all around. The fall off from the blue chippers was steep.
