I think the school of thought here is that he is not getting any younger. The longer he waits to have it done, the more difficult it is to come back from. His contract is basically up after this year for the Cowboys so I don't know that he could get another contract worth anything in his physical condition. I think he has to have it done this off-season. I don't know, I guess he could wait but the problem is not going to go away. I doubt the Cowboys will continue to pay him big money to play a few games a season. That just doesn't make much sense.
He's under contract through the 2008 season, for only $1.7 million. That's peanuts. And if we were willing to keep him on the roster all of this season for essentially just the playoffs, I see no reason why we wouldn't next season for the entire season as long as he's healthy and playing.

I see us drafting a WR in the 1st Round to replace Owens down the road, so who do we keep?

1st Rounder-Yes
Owens-Yes
Glenn?
Crayton?
Hurd?
Austin?
Stanback?

Do we bring Glenn back as injuries are a concern, but there is the cap hit
Do we resign Crayton?
Is Hurd good enough to keep?
Will Austin be more than a returner?
Will Stanback be anything?

Thoughts?

I see you wrong about us drafting a WR in the first round. How bout them apples?

Yah, the only question I have is could he make it possibly through next year and the end of his contract and call it a career and then get the microfracture procedure, if necessary. That's what I kind of expect from him, assuming he's able to show well the end of this season. It stinks, though, because it's a risk to count on him next year after this procedure, so either we don't draft someone and try to continue to develop our young guys and risk ending up in the same boat we're in now, or we draft another WR and replace either Crayton, Hurd, or Glenn--all of which players I really like.

If Glenn can go next year, I think I roll the dice. Keep Glenn and Crayton, use the 1's on CB and a replacement for Julius, and hope that Stanback can develop to the point where you think he could be a legitimate one down the road.

Everyone is free to have an opinion i beileve now is the time to look at replacing TO as this will give the WR 2-3 years to get established

I'm hoping that Glenn comes back and can put (and keep...) the injury behind him, but at this point, I'm not very optimistic. Of the other WRs, Hurd is the guy that I see as being more likely to be gone next year. Crayton has shown good hands, etc., but I have a feeling Crayton is going to want a lot of money though. Austin has speed and contributes on ST, and Stanback, while having the physical skills, he's still raw and is basically a project, IMO.

I think age, injury, and long-term roster implications add up to this being Glenn's final season in Dallas - however much he does or doesn't play this year.

The team needs to look for a replacement for he and Owens for the near and immediate future. While Owens looks to be able to play for several more years, Glenn is at the end of the line.
