If we are going to play the game who who is worth more based on their play, the why is Russell Wilson making more than Tom Brady? or Drew Brees? Yes, Wilson is better than Dak, but he will only be the highest paid QB until the next round of QB negotiations.
I have no issue with the argument that Dak is not as good as Wilson, but that's not what contracts are about. The only question is, does Dallas think that Dak can take them to a Super Bowl and win it? He has shown flashes of brilliant play, then he showed us the Eagles game which was a disaster. Dak made this a very difficult decision for the Cowboys. Had he played well against the Eagles, I think he would have a good argument to get a deal done for some crazy money. But he sucked. He wasn't just bad, he was stupid bad. Wentz made him look silly and Wentz had no receivers at all. But I know what Dak is doing. He is listening to his agents. They are telling him to hold out for some crazy number hoping to press the Cowboys into a corner. The Cowboys should respond by signing a decent backup and if Dak holds out for anything near $40 million the Cowboys should plan on starting the season with their backup and Dak on the franchise tag.
Just remember, whatever Dak is asking for, be it $40 million less, the Cowboys have clearly been unwilling to give it to him. I wish I know what the Cowboys coaches and scouts were telling Jerry. Are they telling him Dak's last 6 games were correctable, or are they telling him what you see is what you get from Dak? Maybe they are telling Jerry Dak is the guy and Jerry still doesn't think Dak is worth $40 million.
