Russell Wilson signed a 4 year, $140M new money extension with the Seattle Seahawks on April 15, 2019 that included a $65M signing bonus, $107M of total guarantees, and an average annual salary of $35M. At the time of signing this deal was the highest average paid contract, most total guarantees, and biggest signing bonus in NFL history. Is that what Dak turned down?
Of did he turn this down?
Carson Wentz signed a 4 year, $128,000,000 contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, including a $16,367,683 signing bonus, $107,970,683 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $32,000,000. In 2020, Wentz will earn a base salary of $1,383,000, a roster bonus of $8,000,000 and a signing bonus of $30,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $18,656,536 and a dead cap value of $62,477,152.
People keep throwing out this lump sum number but I would say if you gave a contract that avg was say 35 or 38 mill but within the deal the guaranteed portion is 60 million then what you have in reality is a 60 mill contract for 4 to 5 years. The player knows this portion is the only true portion he can count on.
Fact is without seeing the entire contract proposed we don't know what Dak turned down
