Excellent read where Robinson talks to several NFL scouts and player personnel people on why people missed on Prescott. The Elway stuff, is also interesting although that's been previously known. Robinson also names the Dallas coach who was Prescott's organizational champion.

In that same vein Pro Football Weekly's Greg Gabriel also talked to scouts and made a good point about how well Prescott has been coached at Dallas.

“Of all the players I’ve coached in my entire career, the Cowboys inquired with me personally more about Dak than any team – and more than any player ever,” Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen said...

“He’s never going to have the strongest arm,” Mullen said. “As I’ve told people when he went to the draft, I’m sure if you go to a pro workout, there are guys that are going to look better within that workout. I don’t know if you put 10 other guys on offense and 11 out there on defense against him, there’s going to be anybody better. But there [are] guys if you go put them in shorts and have them throw routes, their release might look prettier. Their arm might look stronger. But as far as managing the game and doing what you need to do to win games as a quarterback, I don’t know if you’ll find somebody better.

“He won at Mississippi State. He led us to No. 1 and that’s never happened in 118 years before. He knows how to win.”

Good stuff.

In a nutshell, God led him here.:flagwave:

Wade Wilson deserves some credit. Seems like every couple of weeks he was meeting with him.

Yes sir. He finally has a chance to earn his pay! All kidding aside we have razzed he and the coaches for years about what do they do, but we've only had Romo, who is a coach in himself. We never draft QB's so in reality the coaches have never had a chance to coach a young pup. I think it's rejuvenating everyone.

So, the 'insider' quote was obviously from Brian Broaddus. Don't know how strong the research is on Wade Wilson being the coach that pushed for him the hardest, but it's interesting to note, given how significantly Wade has been crapped on around here over the years. Maybe the guy's not all-bad, after all.

I thought it was Broaddus, too. Pretty much every point the "insider" made is one Broaddus said, especially that the scouts thought they already had a Dak in Jamiell Showers.

LOL Yes seems as likely as anything else.

To me it shows scouts are not very good at what they are supposed to do.

Goff amazes me that he was top pick, and all of the others might be better than him !!
Gurley was supposed to be awesome, but so far .....meh
Gabbert so far, just avg, and mariotta, up and down and all around.

Wentz is above avg, and good compared to some of the others.

To sum it up every team saw Dak as a "project" player, and unlikely to make it as a nfl bkup, much less a starter.
That shows something is really wrong with their methods.

Wade may have looked at what type of person dak is , dont really know, but he saw something others didnt.

I had never seen dak play, knew nothing about him except the video where on spring break he got knocked out.
So I thought very little of him, but when I saw him in the 1st preseason game I knew he had something special, and was
quite shocked by how he played etc.
After PS game 2 I started my infamous QB competition/controversy thread, where I did say dak may be the best QB in the nfl.
I already wanted to see him start over tony. and then Tony got hurt next game, and here we are.

What do you think of our other draft picks after watching them this season?

I was definitely ahead of schedule on the DakWagon. All the way back to when people were claiming he'd be terrible in the draft threads i was saying he's the perfect candidate to replace Romo after a few aaron rogers-esque years on the bench.

I always knew he'd be this good, but i had no idea it would happen THIS fast.

Thankfully the staff coached that senior bowl. He was great in that game, and I really think that helped to see up close.

So who was most responsible on the Dallas coaching staff? There are varying opinions.
Jerry has already said that Linehan was "on the table" for Dak. Al Michaels reported that both Linehan and Wilson loved Dak, while Garrett liked him. Nothing at all has been said about what McClay thought, so it makes sense that the source would call it a "coaches' pick."

Although we already have more specific reports that said as much, and the horse's mouth even specified which coaches.

Scouts thinking Dallas already had a Dak on the roster with Jamiell Showers. Really? Was Showers ever considered a leader in college (didn't follow him). Did Showers take his team to the #1 rankings with talent that was less than stellar? Showers completion % his senior year was 55%. That's beyond bad.

I find it funny when people say Dallas got lucky

What's funny to me..is that basically all 32 teams, for the most part...have a draft board that is basically the exact same...

Take any big name bust you want...and I promise you every team in the league had that same player ranked just as high..so they got "lucky" that somebody else took said player instead of them who turned out to be a bust

Did we get lucky we got dak? Yeah, of course...every draft is based on luck..every team in every draft is drafting w the same damn board..
