CB is a pretty good position to be "rusty" at as your "street player" skills can take you a long way, especially if you are playing 3rd corner to start.

I agree. Jones ability to play I don't question and Sanders did not think Jones was all that rusty at this stage so by the time the season rolls around I would think Jones will be ready to play. I do think he will need to put in a little extra effort to get himself ready but then he should have a lot of time on his hands since he will not be out running the streets. :)

Pacman Jones is a probowl caliber corner, he will need to get the speed of the game down and get his feet back under him, but you don't get to be that good with "street player" skills.

It's simple for me to break this down. By the season opener in Cleveland I expect two things:

1. Punt returns - Pacman > Crayton

2. CB - Pacman > Reeves

Anything after that is pure gravey.

If that's all we get out of this deal we will still be money ahead.

I'm not getting my hopes up about improved play from a certain safety either...

of course not, my point was that more than any other position, a player can rely on those sort of skills while he acclimates and do relatively well

I dont buy this for a minute. Sure Pacman will struggle in OTA's & Training camp some, but once his legs get under him and his technique gets sound it will be showtime.

Here we sit in June with several months before the season starts and Pacman needs moretime?

B.S. he will be ready for week 1!

Sorry, but I think this was a terrible articel and completely off base.

Pacman has been suspended for on season.

He hasn't been injured, and he's not far behind the shape of any of his teammates.

Every day he's out there during OTA's minicamps, and training camp prepares him for the regular season, just like it does every other player.

This 'rust' business is a lot of junk if you ask me.

If Jones is 'rusty' come Week 1, so is every other player on the team.

Somehow I doubt it.

He probably rusty right now but after the mini camp hes going to have had several weeks of practice and then a chance to sit back and reflect on what hes learned. i think that period of reflection and review is just as important as the practice itself.

i think they have one more minicamp after this one and then another break. Then he gets training camp and all of preseason. thats three months, 5 games and a scrimmage before the regular season begins.

I am going right to the gravy.

I think he makes an impact RIGHT AWAY. Too much is made about being away for a year.

I would agree. If it were a situation like Tank where he came in once the season was underway I would think rust would be a factor but Jones is having the benefit of the OTA, Mini camp and training camp so I don't see this being an issue.

As usual we are in agreement sir. He's too young and too talent not to get major playing time.

I'm starting to get real excited about this teams prospects.

Newman, Jones, Henry and Jenkins at CB in the dime with Ware, Hatcher, Ratliff and Spencer rushing the passer.

Don't think Pacman will be as rusy as some think. He'll get plenty of work in next week's minicamp & a whole lot more in TC & 4 preseason games. It's not like he's coming back from some awful injury & there question if he fully healed nor is he an older player who might be affected by the lengthy time off. Heck the 32 year old Ellis missed essentially a year before he came back & then w/o TC/preseason play, went on to have his best season. You mean that a 24 year old kid can't be ready to go early in the 08 season. Hmm I doubt that.

I totally agree. This rust thing is a bit overrated. He's come into the OTAs in good shape (probably better than many non-suspended players). He doesn't have wear and tear on his body. He's in his physical prime and he's been playing football his whole life. He just needs to get acclimated to the system and, fortunately, he can be eased in a bit since he doesn't have to come in as a starter. This guy is a big-time talent and should not need a season or anywhere close to that length of time to be a solid contributor to this D.

He is unscathed physically. I would be surprised if he isn't playing the majority of the snaps by the 5th game of the season. He is too good to keep on the bench.
