Just saw the game. Obviously defense was exposed, but there is a huge problem in the passing game. This has been all season, coupled with red zone futility (which was not a problem last year)

This could get bad. McCarthy and Dak better figure this Brad Johnson "Checkdown Charlie" crap out
> 7.0 yards per attempt is a general measure for mediocre passing attack. This offense is sitting at 6.3 - ranked 24th. Somehting is wrong

Yrds / attempt (min 2 games). Note: I only went back to 2008 to get Brad Johnson

2008: Tony Romo 7.7
Brad Johnson 5.5

2009 Tony Romo 8.2

2010: Tony Romo 7.5
John Kitna 7.4

2011: Tony Romo 8.0
2012: Tony Romo 7.6
2013: Tony Romo 7.2
2014: Tony Romo: 8.5

2015: Brandon Weeden 7.5
Matt Cassel 6.3
Kellen Moore 7.5
Tony Romo: 7.3

2016: Dak Prescott: 8.0

2017: Dak Prescott: 6.8

2018: Dak Prescott: 7.4

2019: Dak Prescott: 8.2

2020: Dak Prescott 8.4
Andy Dalton 6.5

2021: Dak Prescott: 7.5yds/att

2022: Dak Prescott: 7.3yds/att
Cooper Rush: 6.5yds/att

2023: Dak Prescott 6.3 yds/att

This is a great post. Yards per attempt is a warning sign for this offense. If you sort by Y/A, Dak isn't even on the first page on NFL com. It shows you exactly how you are stuck with Dak. You either have to simplify the passing game so much that it becomes anemic. Or you open it up but then Dak turns into a pick machine.

Just my opinion, but I think this passing attack is built around significant passing production from the TE position.

So far, this group has been underwhelming. If they can become reliable mid range targets for Dak, it opens things up a but more for the offense.

Schoonmaker has been a no-show, Ferg looks sloth-footed out there, and Hendershot is a developmental guy.

In addition, I think the OL instability has been a factor. Hopefully things improve when we get the starting 5 on the field together. Fingers crossed

Numbers of a back up QB, when the OC tends to go conservative in his play calling, as they don’t get any reps with the new guys.

Dak is basically playing like a backup QB, as a 8 year starter.

Great point. Regardless of what you think of Dak, he can make any kind of throw. It seems as though we've intentionally neutered him for the sake of having a quick passing game.

It's good and bad. Dak has looked, generally, much more reliable. But he's making barely any plays and is going to become so content with checkdowns that he will look there first.

Pathetic and reeks of Scott Linehan and his pathetic offensive playbook. Doesn’t help that Dak is a major handicap. I’ve seen every team throw bombs downfield except this one. Hell, even Pickett from the Steelers can do it, yet our QB needs his hand held like a peewee football QB.

Only reason this scheme is conservative is because Dak can't do anything else. Dude has lost any ability he ever had to read defenses. If he doesn't have perfect pass protection like he had in 2016 and early on he can't get the ball out on time and on target.

I really don’t understand the point of this post. We have had no problem moving the ball between the 20’s. It’s the red zone offense that’s been bad and YPA doesn‘t really matter much inside the 10.

Not worried about the passing game if the oline is healthy. Not worried about redzone either.

Say what you want about KM’s play calling, but the Cowboys were among the league leaders in scoring.
MM has implemented this offense that doesn’t stretch the field; it’s primarily screens, check downs and short passes; it seems that most of the passing yards are a result of YAC.

The oline yesterday wasn't bad. It wasn't the best but it certainly wasn't the reason they lost. The passing game is below average. Don't believe me? Look at the numbers...Dak ranks 18th in passing yds (team ranks 21st), he ranks 24th in yard in the air and leads the league in poor passes. As for the red zome...they score a TD 40% of the time when in the red zone. They aren't going to beat really good teams if those don't get much better.

This is not even close to being a Super Bowl caliber offense...which means this team is not nearly as good as everyone thinks they are.

McCarthy is calling what he thinks Dak can actually do.

Dak + McCarthy and his WCO = get used to a lot of dinks and dunks

But yet, Dak was no less effective throwing the ball more downfield under previous OCs.

Dak is what he is. McCarthy just compounds the problem as he's not a very good OC.
