You are the Defensive Coordinator. How would you fix it/prepare for next game?

By a quirk of an unbalanced universe, you are the sole person in the universe (as we know it) who can come in on a one-week contract and fix what ails the Dallas defense.

What would you do, aside from getting back T Newman and teaching basic tackling techniques on the front line?

There is lots to do. Can you do it by correcting at least 3 things?

You are on the clock, experts!:D

Remind Roy Williams that using his arms to tackle is still legal.

Main thing is I have this unit working on tackling and Phillips said as much after the game. Chances are until Newman returns Dallas will run a lot more zone coverages and this is something that will need to be worked on this week. Lastly when we do blitz we have to do a better job than what we did lastnight. Believe or not I think this defense is a lot better than the poor showing they had lastnight.

First and most important, log into CowboyZone and read some of the threads posted by poeple observing from their 50" tv because they saw better than the coach who has access to non-televised video.

Second, I would sign the players with the biggest names in free agency, because they probably only underperformed at their previous stops and would succeed with a change of scenery.

Finally, I would teach these guys to play, because in their probable 8+ years of coaching, they obviously haven't been taught what I could teach them from my couch and or computer screen.

I would shore up the zone responsibilities that the interior of our pass defense was having issues with. I would also understand that the Giants were very good at pass protection in 2006 and it looked to carry over into last night. miami doesnt have quite the same OL. Outside of their LT, Carey, the Miami line is pretty bad. Washington who is a horrid pass rush team eked out a couple of sacks against them.

Oh and get Newman back on the field.

first and foremost we need to go back to fundamental tackling school.

too many plays were potentially stopped yet continued to progress because of missed tackles and sloppy technique.

oh, AND what dallasfaniac said.

Get the damn cornerbacks to stop playing fifteen yards off of the LOS. That was driving me nuts all night. We need pressure...make it happen.

Hammer at SS, Watkins at FS. See what happens.

Not a bad plan but there is no way Williams is benched.

I would hope Newman is back so he can blanket Chambers.

The Dolphins offence looks pretty bad, Green is immobile so we should be able to tee off on him.

Blitz something fierce if Newman is back.

Having Burnett back will help as well.

I think that when you practise a scheme all year and then up running something different because of injuries, it effects the play. Personally, I would run the same d regardless of the injuries until they proved they couldn't do it, then I would change.

I tell you what I wouldn't do. If this was a Parcells team, we would dial it back and be conservative.

I think Wade should stay with his scheme. After all it has been effective. He should attempt to correct the mental errors. But this defense has to stay aggressive. As bad as it was last night, the only thing worse is seeing a passive defense get whipped around like that.

Hamlin was awesome and blowing folks up like RW used to do, and great in coverage (breaking a at least 1 pass to Shockey) he should be signed long term as our SS, and start the FS search, maybe Watkins.

Get a 2nd or 3rd for RW or a straight up trade. (Sorry I had to say it, it's time things change back there)

I would choose which side to double, and believe it or not, I would double Henry's side of the ball since he's slow with the deep stuff, and I would have Henry and Reeves both bump and run - it couldn't get any worse

I would continue to play Spencer as he has shown flashes of greatness and bring in some huge NT off the street. I think Warren is still out there..

I would continue to blitz and do what Wade does.

These are my opinions, you don't have to like them :p:

First thing, I like the idea of Hamlin and Watkins back as the pair of safeties...Sorry, but as unlikely a scenario as it may seem, in reality Roy shouldn't be back there...And this is after all a hypothetical situation as DC.

Against Miami, the 2nd thing I'd do is blitz as many have talked about...Miami has an anemic run game and inconsistent passing game...Blitz.

Third thing I'd do is get more reps for Spencer, he looked live out there.

The only techincal change is that the corners need to be much more physical at the line, especially Henry who as a larger corner has no excuse...better tackling....that guy playing strong safety needs to start playing like a pro bowler. Those three things would remedy this calamity quickly.

Keep on playing offense like Warner's old Rams or Manning's old Colts - and outscore the opposition. :)

It is nice to think that the Cowboys now have the kind of QB and OL that make it possible to outscore an opponent.

It wasn't that long ago that the Cowboys' starting QBs and OLs just weren't good enough to pull it off.

Hamlin also led the team with four missed tackles, giving the Giants an extra 46 yards.

First I take Roy Williams aside and give him a motivational talk and try to light a fire under his a**. I ask him and James to step up and to be more vocal leaders. If I could bring in Woodson or Deon to do the same I would. Get some former player to show them a ring and tell these guys what it takes to win a Superbowl.

I call Spears aside and compliment him on what he is doing well, then tell him what I need him to do better, then mention that if these thing don't happen I'm gonna start giving Hatcher more time. Tell him he needs to step it up a level.

I use more blitzes, more stunts, and anything at all possible to get a better pass rush. Get Ware, Spencer and Williams to the Quarterback.

I think this team has the right personnel, talent, and scheme it just seems like they were lacking the fire last night.

I don't care if the defense makes mistakes as long as they're playing balls to the wall, reckless, smash mouth football with intensity!

Henry didn't miss any tackles and had one or two hard hits. He was just abysmal in coverage (6-for-6, 123 yards and a touchdown, three completions of more than 20 yards).
