CFZ You are the GM. If you replace Dak next year, who is the improvement?

Im trying to go up and get CJ stroud or Bryce Young

Status quo isnt good enough

We shouldve just drafted Fields like i said we should last year
Stroud isn't going to be a great NFL QB. Young maybe but small...try other options

I take David Carr over Dak.

at best it’s subjective and 100% not definitive. How much has Carr won again? If you’re moving on from dak you need to make a CLEAR upgrade. Carr is a sideways move at best. U get rid of dak you definitively get better or you tear it down. Carr is an in between move.

So suppose for a second Big Mac went ‘LA Rams’ on Dak and shocked the world by trading his franchise QB because he knew the person he was getting was far better? And remember, the goal is next year to win it all.

Are there any Staffords left? Borderline elite QBs with cap friendly contracts? All quarterbacks signed after Dak are going to seriously hurt any team that trade them away no matter what we offered them. Teams don’t just give away franchise quarterbacks.

Biggest name free agent is probably Lamar Jackson? Would you give him the giant contract the Ravens won’t…. And can the team even afford it?

Cooper’s days are at an end if this is how our defense plays now. Frustrating that last year at the halfway point the NFL figured out our top 3 offense, this year it’s the top 3 defense.

You can spend a top draft pick but now you’re going to have to wait for development. Better make sure there is another solid running back too, because Zeke won’t be around with that salary.

And if you’re feeling like a gambler, are you going to see if you’re the next team to find a Geno Smith? Who is that next guy who rises from the bench into stardom?

There really is not a viable exit strategy for the next 2 seasons. You could shop Dak around to some teams that feel like they are a QB away from contending and see what you may be able to get (New Orleans, Pittsburgh, SF, etc) but I really do not think the return would be very good. I highly doubt you could extract more than a 3rd or 4th rounder with a few players in a potential deal.

Dallas also will not be in position to draft a top QB in next years' draft due to the fact this team will probably still win 11 or 12 games and end up in the last 8 picks. You could take a flier on a second rounder (I really think using a 1st at this point unless a can't miss prospect slides to you), but to put it simply, with Dak's contract you are not going to put him on the bench. Honestly wasting a second or first rounder on a QB to sit the bench for 2 seasons is not a viable strategy given or only method of impact player acquisition is the draft.

We will be free of him soon enough, and we will get to experience QB hell in the NFL for the first time since Romo took over.

Dak has an iron clad contract he can not be traded
No trade clause's are easy to break. Just tell them they will sit on the bench.

Their agent will freak out over lost endorsement value and convince the player to accept the trade to be back in the spotlight.

There will be no improvement next year if you get rid of him.

To search for a QB is an ongoing thing. You draft them every year.
This is a very important position so you need to invest into it. Every third year at least a 2nd rounder. All the other years a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Every 3rd year spending a high pick on a QB is essential in your approach. The new QB needs 1 year to acclimate as a backup. Then after 4 years he can either take over from your last pick that didnt pan out. Or, if your last QB panned out you keep him if he is a sure elite one. Then you trade your 2nd round QB pick or make him a backup. This way you will never be in a situation where the most important player on your roster controls his value (Romo, Prescott...). Thats the worst scenario and you never want to be in this. Expecially if you are not a good negotiator (JJ, SJ...).

We never did that. We lost now another 6+ years with Prescott without investing into the position during that span. You cant expect to get rid of him and suddenly find a replacement that plays like the next Montana.

I knopw our FO likes to put itself like they are smart. Even when they luck into a QB (Romo, Prescott) they like to put it like "look, we found a QB out of luck. We are blessed by god, he will give us luck if we need it." Those two remind me of the agyptian pharaos. God like beings, able to control luck in their favour.

Next year willl be a down year. We need to assemble draft material to draft for a QB. We also need to get rid of medicore players like DFlaw, LVE ...

You draft a QB high in 2024 and then repeat in 2025 like i wrote above. If in the meantime there is a franchise QB to hit the market in FA you consider to get him.

Dak has a no trade clause, so he's not getting dealt unless he wants to (see Russell Wilson leaving Seattle).

As for Lamar, he's not going anywhere. The Ravens will eventually work out a deal with him.

First QB that I can take in the draft. Attempt to move up if you can and take your best shot at a QB.
Then move on.

I don't disagree. But Dak is a top 12-15 QB and that would be a huge improvement for Atlanta and Carolina. In a world where a 33 year old Russel Wilson is worth 5 picks and a mega contract , including 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks, Dak has value. Russel Wilson isn't as good as Dak. His cheap rookie contract allowed Seattle to load up the defense and he did enough on offense to make Seattle contenders for a few years, but as soon as Seattle had to give him a big contract that gutted the rest of the team, that house of cards fell...........and Denver fell for it. Someone would fall for Dak.
It just takes one GM as dumb as Jerry to offload Dak. Not likely, but the Eagles were able to get rid of Wentz AND got a first round pick as well.....

You start by drafting a QB with a premium pick, you know, like we did with Troy Aikman in 1989. If that QB doesn't show much by the time his rookie contract is up you draft his replacement. Rinse repeat until you hit the jackpot which should be once per decade on average.

That is at least a plan with a chance. Jonesin' hasn't been working.

The Joneses have no plan. That is the problem.

Anyone remember the train wreck after Aikman and before Romo?
That's what it will be like.

I get it on Wilson but Wilson has a track record of being able to throw accurate forward passes. He has shown the leadership to get into his teams backside when needed and not walk around like a Jason Garrett dummy. He has a ring and he’s been competitive in several years during his career.

Now is Wilson what he uses to be, no. But he’s 10 miles ahead of radio in the grand scheme of things and likely will succeed again.
Dak did beat him head to head in playoffs and outplayed him just saying

unfortunately, the dallas QB until at least 2023 will continue to be Dak, due to the money that is going to be paid to him, it is almost impossible to cut him next year, and you are not going to send a QB to the bench who is going to collect 49M in 2023, the only chance to cut it would be before 2024 to save 34M and have 18M in dead money, and still have to pay you 18M and save 3.6M in 2025, and pay you 3.6M in 2026 without Being under contract due to the restructuring, what you have to do is start looking for a QB in the draft to start preparing him, and after Dak leaves, see what possibilities there are of reaching the SB, because with Dak in the team, forget about that possibility,

This is the smartest strategy and surprised more GMs don’t do it

There are 16 QBs performing better than Dak this year. It shouldn’t be too hard. But it’s not even worth discussing as Dak is stuck with us until 2024 so we need a true #1 receiver and draft or shop for run defenders (DT’s and replace LVE)
