Church is better but Wilcox should only cost 1 mil.

Either way I'd start heath if they don't get another s.

Do you guys think if either one of those players read this it won't jolt them just a little bit?,,, o.k. from an old sea-hunt episode two cowboy defensive backs are trapped in an air pocket of a sunken tramp steamer, running out of oxygen ,hero Lloyd 'melonfeud' bridges pops in on them with bearly enough oxygen remaining in his tanks for him and only one other to make the ascent to the surface, who do you deem worthy/ unworthy?,,,, fergitit,I ain't gonna play.

Good thread though.
I have not thought about that show in a long long time.

Church. Many fans fail to realize what a steady and reliable player he is. Does he make a lot of big plays? No. But he doesn't give up that many either. Church is a valuable veteran leader in a young secondary. Wilcox may have more athletic ability, but he was a mess in coverage up until last year. I wonder if Wilcox has finally figured it out; or if last year was a fluke.

Church missed four games last year and was still second on the team with 85 tackles.

Wilcox. He's still improving after the late shift to defense in college. He's also a better fit in this era of the NFL. He can cover more ground. Those in the box safety types are dinosaurs.

You have Frazier and Heath as well as Jones, Wilcox and Church. I'd keep Frazier and Heath as S3 and S4. Jones is S1. You don't need both Church and Wilcox although I can see both returning on non-guaranteed contracts or with minimal ones to compete. I'm further than hoping they acquire a S R1-4 to play into the rotation.

Ehh I think Wilcox is being overrated because people only saw him in small sample size last year. We've all seen him make big mistakes when asked to play a lot. He's a good backup, still don't want him to be a starter.

I'd love an upgrade over Church but my gut says the coaching staff keeps him for his leadership. Doubt he costs much though. If they let him test the market and some team with cap room wants to pay him I could see Wilcox coming back to compete with Heath/Frazier/draft pick.

The secret is simple. Don't dump any player you have not adequately replaced. A serious lesson the Cowboys should have learned long ago. The replacement is not always an improvement.

Gotta consider Church's age too, he must be close to 30... how many more years does he have before experiencing a decline. He was never a top athlete at the position to begin with.

But he is reliable, has a repertoire with the staff/lockerroom, and knows the system.

I'd like him back on a fair deal, probably no more than 3 years. It allows you more flexibility in the draft, but it's not a contract that should stop you from drafting an eventual successor if the value lines up.

That being said, the light seemed to come on for Wilcox last year. He's got some playmaking ability that Church doesn't offer, so it might be worth sticking with him and hoping that trend continues on the up. He should come at a much friendlier price as well.

Don't really have an issue with either guy, but we should definitely sign one. Too much change within a unit that performed pretty well last year may not be the best idea.

Wilcox will be offered more money by someone. I think we bring Church back at a cheaper price due to his age.
