You don't move on from Dak unless you have The Franchise already on the roster

Green Bay had Favre and did not move on from four until they were sure on Aaron Rodgers.

Many years later, Green Bay did not move on from Aaron Rodgers until they were sure Jordan Love was the guy.

The Colts did not move on from Peyton Manning until they had Andrew Luck.

Successful organizations don’t move on from guys until they have the guy.

If you don’t have a plan, it could be several 5-11 seasons (like Washington since cousins left).

So unless he drafts a qb, he would gambling the franchises stability and worth. Or he would have to believe in Trey Lance.

In 2016, I saw Dallas play Cleveland in Cleveland. Cleveland was winless (0-8?) and the fans that did show up (very little), all left by the end of the first quarter. Concession stands, etc. had no lines.

I don’t think he moves on until he has the guy in house. He moved on from Romo because he had Dak. He has shown that awareness in the past. And Dak and Dallas have made the playoffs consistently, he needs to step up in the playoffs.

It’s Jerry’s money, he has to pay Dak until he has someone better. He knows it, Dak knows it.

Go Cowboys!

Let's see. Romo got injured, Dak stepped in. Romo returns and plays 1 series upon his return, then retires at the end of that year.

Jerry moved on because he didn't want to interfere with their win streak.

Looks like your theory doesn't hold water when it comes to Jerry.

Difference being, those QB’s you mentioned were still capable of getting their team to at least the conference championship game, and probably to actually winning the Super Bowl.
Dak however, for as good as he is… and he is very good, has now shown he’s not the man to be able to take his team to those levels.
Keeping him and consistently winning 10-13 games a season would actually be detrimental to the team because we’d be forever picking in the mid 20’s come the draft…. We are better off trying to trade to get something back in return if he’d agree to a trade, maybe even trading away this years 1st rounder to get another one next year, and put ourselves in a position where we can at least trade up to a top 3 pick to get a player that would hopefully become our franchise QB.

Favre, Rodgers, and Manning were all SB winners. Dak is not. Bad comparison. If you don't already have THE GUY, meaning an obvious Mohomes, Brady, Rodgers, etc, then you need to keep drafting and changing QBs frequently so you don't end up paying the wrong guy, and getting stuck in the situation we are currently.

IOW - keep riding rookie contracts for QBs and switch them out for new QBs when their rookie deal is up if they haven't won the SB. Only pay and keep a QB long term if they win the SB during the rookie contract.

Yes, you might cut a guy too soon, but the long term trends show that the best strategy is to draft QBs in the first round, and only pay QBs who win you a SB on their rookie deal.

So how about creating a dominant O-line, with a running game which would give a 'lesser QB' assistance ala Cowboys 2016 or 49ers 2022.

Maybe sure up the Defense with the CAP saving.

I feel like this will have to be the norm to avoid these large amounts of money, hopefully we can find someone to stay long term and get us success

Never going to get out of mediocrity unless you really start rebuilding. Should start Lance this year. You get to see what he is. If he's a bust you'll have a top 10 pick to get a real QB. Beating the scrubs of the league and pretending that we are actually SB contenders when we are nothing but pretenders is wearing thin.

Yes, that's smart but our FO isn't smart.

They got lucky with Romo and to a degree with Dak. I give them more credit with Dak because he may not have been their primary target but we had like 4 visits with him. He was definitely someone they liked.

In either event this FO doesn't historically prepare for a new QB, hence the QC, Hutchinson, Henson, Leaf, Testaverde, Bledsoe days.

that's the only hope with Jerry. Rodgers and Love were picks in the 20s and those teams had the luxuary of finding them, although the book on Love is not proven yet. one year does not a legend make. however, we are talking about Jerry, who wanted to pick Manziel (read jersey sales) and wanted to trade up for Lynch. so his prowess for picking QBs is questionable. so if we do go 5-11 or worse in 2025, then a top 5 pick, maybe we are so bad that we get top pick and luck into an Elite QB. but then again as I said Jerry would pick Bryce young over CJ strout.

The OP sounds like he's scared of the unknown. He's content to stick with mediocre garbage because the replacement could be worse. The replacement could be a hall of famer, but you will never find out if you don't try.
I remember when I was scared to move on from Garrett. "who are we going to get to clap on the sidelines and come up average every year" that was a scary time.

None of those QB were known to be better....until they got on the field. They were unknown as almost every player is.

It could be we already have one. We just don;t know yet.

It's a very common theme here...stick with the guy you know can't get it done because the next guy might not be able to get it done either. Going to ride that stock right to the bottom.

His theory is literally what the Cowboys did lol. Moved on from Romo when they found a superior quarterback.
