To all the Negative Nancy's, there is well founded reason to be optimistic.
Now of course we all want to see it on the field. In the meantime, we'll speculate.
The secondary is the unit best positioned for a significant improvement in play over 2008.
Why?
Because we have two 2nd year players who both demonstrated the ability to play this game as rookies.
I know everyone likes to talk about the 3 year rookie rule, but that's a deadline. In most cases for most positions, the real jump in performance is from year 1 to year 2.
We've replaced Roy Williams. Now of course we don't know for sure if Sensabaugh will be an upgrade, but the fact that Wade has already shelved the star role for Scandrick is certainly a good sign.
Odds are Newman gives us more than half a season at full strength.
These are very reasonable projections. It's not like I'm suggesting Austin will replace Owens' TD production or that F. Jones is the next Marshall Faulk.
