Lets just throw out a hypothetical.

You have to pick between Roy Williams and Ken Hamlin.

The guy you pick stays. The other is gone and never a Cowboy again.

Who do you pick. Hamlin, or Roy?

Hamlin

we don't have to worry about getting beat deep much w/ him back there, he's doing a great job providing help over the top, although he does have his moments

on the otherhand though, Roy is our 2nd-leading tackler, and stopping the run is important for a team

if i don't read online hate mail....roy.

if i give in to the "id" generation, hamlin.

in the end, hell...i'd say whatever ends the whining week in and week out but if not roy, the whiners will whine about something else.

so to answer your question - LOOK - A CHICKEN!!!!

I really think Roy should stay close to the line, not cover and let a speedy hybrid LB go for short cover.
Roy should bulk up and do dis or lose weight and re-learn cover technique. And get back to his quick hitting ability. Simple.

Man Crayton kind of left his teammate out to dry with those comments didn't he?

What the heck??? Who are you, and where is the real Bob?

I feel as though I've been saying this all year, and many, including yourself (a lot) have been bagging on me as well as others, but believe it or not, I agree with you.

For me, no doubt, Hamlin. As Bob said (still can't believe I'm saying this, lol), Hamlin would allow us the freedom that most teams already have by having a safety play the run and pass equally.

And Bob, to your point, while Roy is second in tackles, I'm fairly certain that Hamlin, given his pedigree, could more than make up for Roy and get his fair share of tackles in support.

Hamlin.

A couple years ago it'd be Roy.

Now it's Hamlin. He's our quarterback. On defense.

I somehow get the feeling Roy has separated himself from his teammates a little these last couple years. Crayton's comments might be a little hint of that.

I love Roy and I paid $75 for a Roy "throwback" jersey. With that being said, if I had to pick one guy to keep it would be Hamlin.

Hamlin is the QB of the defense, he plays the deep ball great, and he also is not afraid to make a big hit either. Versatility is the key with Hamlin.:D

I'd pick "The Hammer".

Note: Both Roy and Hamlin have been nicknamed "The Hammer" in the past.

How is this even a question?

Hamlin has been an awesome addition, but my answer is Roy.

I'd go with Keith "Killer" Davis any day of the week!

Roy has lost something he had his first few years. He is no longer a playmaker. Maybe that is a result of the rule changes and fines and such, but it is a fact.
Hamlin.

I agree.

Roy used to be amazing. He changed the game when he stepped on the field.

I think Roy is the worst case of having your confidence broke that i've seen in awhile.

I believe once he lost his confidence and people started bringing the hammer down on him his big plays left with him.

Hes average. Hes not the guy we drafted and had for 3 years. You can pull out any stat you want but just watch the damn game and you can tell a huge difference.

Its Hamlin by a long shot and I cant believe how bad Roy is getting owned in this thread. Im surprised.

Nice hypothetical. Something similar has been stewing around in my brain for a while now, as I wonder whether Roy will be with this team next year.

Until the past 16 games or so, it would be Roy, no question. Even early last season, he was making plays - and better plays in coverage than Hamlin is making this season. Recall his fantastic INT where he closed on Cooley against the Skins last season for just one example.

However, since late last season, Roy has basically been a ghost on the field. As much as I homer for our players, and Roy especially, if someone asked me to outline what Roy is doing at a high level for our team, I'd almost be at a loss. Yes, I appreciate what he is doing for our run defense. We can go to that nickel/dime look and never miss a beat. But what big plays has he made? The only one I can think of all season is his fantastic PD on that pass against the Vikings.

It is possible that this is a slump season. That he will bounce back. Given that, I would take Roy over Hamlin every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

But it's also possible that this is the decline, and that we'll never get Roy back. If that's the case, and Jerry has his finger on the pulse of the fanbase, we may not see Roy here for too much longer. I'm sure his merch sales have declined with other stars budding, and half our fan-base has some irrational hate for the guy. In that case, We've got to roll with the 26 year old Hamlin and find a replacement for Roy.

What mose disapointing to me is Roy came into this season in great shape.

He dropped I believe 20 lbs and looks much thinner than in years past.

I dont know what to say about the guy and im worried that he will get us killed by someone in the playoffs.

It's a no-brainer. Roy is the better player. If we could actually pick up a real FS instead of a SS moved to FS, then the Roy-FS tandem would be a major force.
