I haven't heard of the drug being used for performance enhancement. Medically one of the other uses is for pulmonary hypertension which is elevation of blood pressure in the lungs. I don't know how much benefit a football player would get from improved lung circulation as this is usually not even a minor limitation in anaerobic performance.

I tried so friggin hard to work in the spanky reference, so much potential there, I just couldn't make it sound right in my head.
