Just look at the schedule. Even a pessimistic baby can come up with 10 wins out this thing. Lose at New England, Tampa and at the Jets. Lose both Philly games. Heck, even lose the Detroit game. You're still at 10, and a couple of those losses are a stretch to please the negative nancys.

This is an extremely favorable schedule. I'm tired of seeing so many posts about this being a rebuilding year. No team in the league has veteran pro bowlers at every position.

O-line and D are going to surprise some of the negative losers on this board.

I think people are trying to build an excuse for Garrett if he fails this year.

Yeah that worries me also. I am not sure why so many people are so aroused by Garrett that they'll defend him to the death on this board. He stands rather than sits at interviews, and talks in a deep voice, so I guess that makes him a hybrid version of Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson all of a sudden.

We have a plethora of great players in their absolute prime right now. If Garrett can't get this team to 10 wins with the schedule he has been gifted, than he is an absolute failure.

I don't think you understand we don't have a defense or special teams.

You're preaching to the choir. I see 11-5 and a division title. Philly gets in as a wild card. You think *we* have a questionable offensive line??? Take a gander at the mess they are trotting out there!

But we have a Quarterback and supposedly a good headcoach.

If you have those 2 things than thats more than half the battle in the salary cap era.

You can retool on the fly no problem with those 2 elements.

So if Romo has a bad year, Garrett has a bad year, or both than we will have a bad year.

As far as post season success goes that will depend on the defense.

Argument over the term "rebuilding" is completely asinine. Of course we're rebuilding, we just got a new head coach, a new defensive coach, new position coaches, scrapped 60% of our starting offensive line, replaced a couple of starters at skill positions on offense, cut our starting defense end, and so on, and so on. And just wait till next year when we go through this again on the defensive side of the ball.

That's a lot of change to not consider it rebuilding. What, you guys enjoyed the last couple of years? You wanna keep doing that instead of actually rebuilding this team and making it better?

The idea that you can't compete while you rebuild is what's stupid. Just because you are restructuring your team doesn't mean you just give up on winning games.

This makes a lot more sense than what most are saying when they throw "rebuilding year" out there. I think CATCH17 is correct in that people are already making excuses for Garrett as a failure if this team underachieves.

I'm loving what you just wrote...well said!

To be fair some of the people that are saying we are "rebuilding" aren't exactly Garrett supporters.

No one said that "winning" and "rebuilding" were incompatible. The Niners winning it all in 1981 didn't change the fact that they were rebuilding with three rookies in the secondary.

I prefer the term retooling to rebuilding. I think we are simply getting the right pieces in place in order to be successful. I predict that we will win 11 games this year, but I know we have much room for improvement. The goal from what I can see is for the Cowboys to once again be a dominant franchise. It may take a few years, but with Garrett, I have no doubt we will get there once he gets all the pieces in place. We are not there yet. That doesn't mean we can't still win during this process.

They are simply trying to insulate themselves from dissapointment.

There are people all over this board, as I am sure you are also reading, who are already cushioning a 7-9 or 8-8 season as a good first effort in a rebuilding year.

I'm not sure what Garrett has done well enough to garner this much blind, unquestioning support, but in reality I would have to say that anything less than 10 wins with the talent that we still and this schedule is gonna be a failed season no matter how much people wanna give Garrett a jump on this board.

They're definitely rebuilding (retooling?) the o-line. Whether that means they're rebuilding the entire team is anyone's guess.

Yuck! Can we agree to not agree in the future. It makes me feel dirty.

No such thing as rebuilding when you have a franchise QB. You're simply retooling. And in reality every franchise is either rebuilding or retooling every year.

That's still no excuse for losing. The games still count and the losing still sucks.

The 1989 Cowboys were rebuilding around their newly acquire franchise QB. So what! The losing hurt just as much and no one gave us a pass. Media, opposing fans and especially the teams we played. Most did all they could to run it up and rub it in.

We do not have a "few years" with the current core. They are aging, but they can still play quite well. Romo is in his prime right now. A steady QB and good coaching are more than ample to be successful in this league. Heck, the Colts head coach has been dead for the past two seasons, and they still have been fine with just a great QB.

I think we need to stop protecting Garrett so much and start having some expectations. He's making millions of dollars to be a head coach, and he has been given the keys to a very well-built car.

Just googled the Over/Under for Dallas this season. Looks like its 9 wins. FWIW

I've got em at 8-8, and am making no apologies for Garrett. They are obviously rebuilding the O-Line with Rookies and I also think that the pass coverage units will witness significant changes as the season progresses. The entire defense is learning a new and complex scheme and overall there are 7 different starters vs. early 2010.

BTW, what was your 2010 season prediction?

There is very little depth, a ton of holes on defense, and a rebuilt offensive line. I'm hardly a Garrett apologist, but he can do an outstanding job this year and still wind up with a .500 team. He's held captive by the poor personnel decisions of the last 5 years. There's simply no way around that.
