You think we keep 5 DTs? As much as I want Bishop, I think he'll go to the PS and Hayden will stay. Also, I'd move Wilber to DE permanently. At least until Lawrence and/or Spencer come back. We'll only have 3 DEs on the roster Week 1. You usually want 8 healthy DL at the game -- 4 DE, 4 DT.

When Lawrence and Spencer come back, I see us keeping 5 DEs and 4 DTs. I think we keep more DEs since we play a lot in the Nickel, so Crawford is basically a DT more than a DE. Also, around the middle of the season, if Hayden (or Bishop) is playing poorly, I see us replacing them with Brent.

My Week 8 depth chart

DE: Lawrence, Spencer, Selvie, Mincey
DT: Brent, Melton, McClain, Coleman (maybe Okoye instead of Coleman)
DE/DT: Crawford

There were 2 short yardage plays against the Broncos where everybody got blown off the ball except Ken Bishop was hanging in there not budging. Bishop was also getting some partial penetration against the pass. If McClain is out for game 1, then Hayden is the only 1-tech. They're screwed if Coleman has to play that the 1-tech because he can't hold ground, he's can only penetrate.

Wilber could cause Bush and Boatright to be pushed to the PS. Boatright had some good plays, but it was against 3rd string OL. I think he would make it to the PS.

They don't need to move Wilber permanently because he would be off he field in the Nickel defense as the SLB. They played Nickel 61% of the snaps last season.

Has there been a ruling on Brent? I still wouldn't be surprised to see him suspended for a year.

Week 8 will be injury dependent. I'm sure there will be some injuries somewhere that will open up some spots.

3rd QB: I say yes
4th RB: Yes
6th WR: No
FB: Unfortunately no, not a true one anyway
9th OL:
T Smith, Tyron
T Free, Doug
T Parnell, Jermey
OC Frederick, Travis
G Leary, Ronald
G Martin, Zack
G Bernadeau, Mackenzy
G Nwaneri, Uche

If they do keep nine that player is not currently on the roster.
6th DE: 50-50 (does Lawrence go in short term IR?) No
DT: Any chance for Minter? No
LB: C. Lawerence
CB/Safety: Is Thomas a CB or Safety? Neither, he is a STer.

The OL was putrid last night. Not sure where anyone saw much to be happy about. They didn't open holes and they were getting whipped in pass protection. So we have the starting 5. We have Parnell as swing tackle. Bernadeau is our swing guy inside. Nwaneri was bad last night. Wetzel and Patrick can go to PS but Wetzel is definitely limited to RT. I guess Weems is our 9th OL but only on past performance because he has been injured all of camp. I'd be looking for another G/T type to be honest.

Vaughan is PS material only. He was shellshocked last night and never threw a pass more than 10 yds down field...looks like McGee checking down. No one is going to grab him off PS. I would look to Connor Shaw if the Browns don't keep him active.

I'm not sure that Nwaneri is worth keeping, but I can't see them go without 2 interior backups. Patrick shows potential but in not ready, IMO. I would like to know the status of Weems. He has the build to be the 2nd backup OG and he practiced there some during the season last year according to Broaddus. If Weems is still injured, then the could just put him on IR if they really want him for the future. Wetzel should easily make it to the PS. Parnell was the best player most of the of all the backups by far.

I don't get the broadcast until Midnight, did Boatright earn a roster spot tonight?

He had multiple good plays but it was against 3rd string OL. With Wilber available as an extra DE, I don't know if Boatright makes the 53.

Can't wait for us to cut Dustin. Kid has gotten way too much ink. PS if he makes it. So long if he doesn't.

Every year there is a Clint Stoerner/Alex Tanney/Dustin Vaughn that people overrate. A guy like Tony Romo is a once a half decade player for a team.

Cut him, he won't be signed, then put him on the practice squad.

QB: Romo, Weeden and Vaughn (don't want to keep Weeden, but believe Dallas will)

RB: Murray, Dunbar, Randle, Williams

FB: Clutts

WR: Bryant, Williams, Beasley, Harris, Street

TE: Witten, Escobar, Hanna

T: Smith, Free, Parnell

G: Leary, Martin, Bernadeau (Nwaneri)

C: Frederick

DE: Selvie, Mincey, Crawford, Spencer, Lawrence, Boatright

DT: Hayden, McClain, Melton, Coleman (Bishop)

LB: Carter, Durant, Wilber, McClain, Hitchens, Smith

CB: Carr, Claiborne, Moore, Patmon, Mitchell (would have kept Webb over Mitchell)

S: Church, Wilcox, Heath, Dixon, Thomas

LS: Ladoceur

K: Bailey

P: Jones

Nwaneri will be cut and brought back after the first week in place of Bishop

Boatright is a replaceable part, but a fourth end is needed with Spencer and Lawrence out.

Other players who may be churned are Thomas, Mitchell and Smith.

I like the idea with Nwaneri, but I doubt if they do it.

Wilber will play some DE in the Nickel and is the 4th healthy DE. They could get by without Boatright.

Klutts seems like a wasted spot. He's another guy they could cut and bring back in a week or two when the roster gets sorted out.

I would prefer to cut Hayden over Bishop is McClain get healthy. Looking at Hayden career it's borderline on whether he's a vested veteran which would guarantee his salary is he's on the roster for game 1.

Thomas is a Safety/CB and could be the 5th CB is they want to move Mitchell to the PS.

They could also manage with 5 LBs for game 1 if they really need another spot. I think Smith would make the PS. The ST coach will push to keep Cam Lawrence.

this was a really strong effort.
more realistic than we've seen in the media imho.

various thoughts:
QB: keep 2 and PS Vaughn. He's 2 or 3 years away from being able to be a back up. He isn't better than 40 year old Kitna right now.
RB: Keep RW because he's a quality RB and you need that. Keep Randle because he can block and play on ST and you need numbers at the position where the top 2 guys are fragile.
WR: Tough call because I like Byrd but it's pointless to keep a guy whose not only our 6th best player at the position but looks to be no more than our 6th best player at that position for next couple seasons. We don't have 52 better players but it just doesn't work like that.
DE: Gotta get in someone else's cut. Rams will cut Westbrooks or Sam. One of those two could play 3rd downs for us week 1.
DT: See above except sub SEA for STL. We can use Boatright, Minter and Bush as PS guys. Maybe get Ben Bass back on PS.
DB: We our taking baby steps forward in talent here unfortunately now we have two guys suspended and a couple more injured... great.

My previous thread was based on what I think the team will do. This one is my preference.

I'm not including any waiver wire additions although I would look at those.

I always have to include something a little wacky somewhere in this which you'll spot easily.

K Bailey, Dan
LS Ladouceur, L.P.
P Jones, Chris

DE Crawford, Tyrone
DE Mincey, Jeremy
DE Selvie, George
DE Lawrence, DeMarcus
DE Spencer, Anthony
DE Boatright, Kenneth

DT Melton, Henry
DT McClain, Terrell
DT Coleman, Davon
DT Hayden, Nick – If McClain is healthy, I would cut Hayden
DT Bishop, Ken

LB McClain, Rolando
LB Durant, Justin
LB Carter, Bruce
LB Hitchens, Anthony
LB Wilber, Kyle
LB Smith, Will or Cam Lawrence (upside vs core special teams guy)

CB Carr, Brandon
CB Claiborne, Morris
CB Moore, Sterling
CB Patmon, Tyler
CB/S Jemea Thomas – Ability as CB or Safety bumps Mitchell to PS.

S Church, Barry
S Wilcox, J.J.
S Heath, Jeff
S Dixon, Ahmad

QB Romo, Tony
QB Weeden, Brandon

RB Murray, DeMarco
RB Dunbar, Lance
RB Randle, Joseph
RB Williams, Ryan

WR Bryant, Dez
WR Williams, Terrance
WR Beasley, Cole
WR Harris, Dwayne
WR Street, Devin
WR Byrd, LaRon – I’m trying to keep all players that would be signed by other teams.
WR Newsome, Jamar – It would never happen but I have him tied with Byrd and better than Street at this minute. Maybe keep DT Minter instead.

TE Witten, Jason
TE Escobar, Gavin
TE Hanna, James

T Smith, Tyron
T Free, Doug
T Parnell, Jermey
T Weems, Darrion – If he is healthy soon then I move him to OG for now; otherwise, IR and keep Nwaneri.

OC Frederick, Travis
G Leary, Ronald
G Martin, Zack
G Bernadeau, Mackenzy

if we can keep 4 rb's and 5 wr's i will be tickled. not sure with so many injuries and suspensions we can but thats were the talent is. i worry that we will have to cut a talented player to have depth for the injuries and suspensions and that would be a shame but may be the only option

I would watch roster cuts to upgrade the depth along the DL, OL and LB. Players in bold italics are on the bubble.

Obviously we would need to drop 1 DE and 1 CB when D. Lawerence and O. Scandrick return.

I agree that Wilber playing at DE could help Dallas weather being without two of its ends.
I don't think Dallas will go without a fullback type for the first week or two. Doesn't mean the Cowboys will stick with Clutts, but right now, he's the only option for that fourth spot.

I don't see Hayden going anywhere. He's the type of effort guy that coaches love even if the talent is missing to do much with that effort. Maybe if McClain had been healthy enough to show we can do without Hayden, the team would cut him. I just can't see it ... and think Bishop is the low man on the totem pole.

Would love for Mitchell to go to the PS because he doesn't deserve to be the on the roster.

You might be right on Lawrence from a ST standpoint. I just don't see much there as an LB.

EDIT I did forget about Minter, so he could push for Bishop's spot, but I think he's a 3 more than a 1, so I don't know if there's room there with Melton and Coleman cememted

Could we get him??

Any idea what # we are on the waivers? Didn't Jerry previously say that he didn't fit our "scheme" or something along those lines right after the draft week?

I´m not sure, but I saw his preseason games and he would seem like an upgrade at the position.

Completely agree. I thought he played very well all preseason for the Rams. Ethan Westbrook (spelling?) was even more impressive for them from what I saw and read. Will be interesting to see if we can get some upgraded players come cut down time tomorrow afternoon. I really hope so. Especially on the defensive side of things.
