Just curious how this would break down generationally. Name your top 3 favorite seasons. I'm not asking for your view of the top 3 seasons in Cowboys history, what I'm asking for is this:

What 3 seasons gave you the most enjoyment, kept you the most engaged, during the time that you have been a Cowboys fan?

You lived and died with it, you checked the radio, newspapers (online if a more recent season), to get all the information you possibly could.

Here are mine.

#3 - 1989 - Aikman was our 1st pick, Jimmy and Jerry got their start, and I was absolutely captivated to find out what life would be like without Tom Landry.

#2 - 1995 - I really wanted us to get that 3rd ring, we got Deion into the fold, and yet there was always that question with Barry Switzer at the helm. I wanted to believe we had more Super Bowls in us, but I was absolutely relieved that we got #3 at the end of that year and would be, without debate, the team of the 90's.

#1 - 1992 - What a magical year this was. The team reached maturity about a year before I thought they would. Everything clicked. The Big 3 really became the big 3 that year, and the defense got no respect and yet played lights out. How bout dem Cowboys!

note: Honorable mention - 1977, Tony D's first year, and Roger at the helm at QB. What a great season. I watched this Super Bowl again 2 days ago. Was a great game!

92, 93, and 95. :)

I also enjoyed the 89 season with Aikman and Walsh and also the new owner and head coach. I remember we won all the preseason games and Jimmy and Jerry was all celebrating the last preseason win. Unfortunately went 1-15 in the regular season.

1975 -- Hands down, my favorite year. A bunch of aging stars retired the year before, and the Cowboys were given very little chance to do anything. With the mass exodus, 12 rookies made the team. Landry, knowing he had to shake things up, employed the shotgun formation for Roger. They brought in Preston Pearson. They added more trick plays. And magic happened. They stunned the favored Vikings in Minneapolis on the "Hail Mary," then beat the crap out of the heavily favored Rams in front of more than 100,000 in the LA Coliseum.

1992 -- Everything came together ... the draft picks over the past three years, the veterans that were added, and they peaked at the end of the season. The Cowboys were back on top where they belonged.

1977 -- Tony Dorsett's rookie year (Hill was a rookie, too) was very exciting. Dallas added a home-run threat to an already stacked team and the result was a dominant season ending with a butt-kicking of Denver in the Super Bowl.

1981 - Dallas finished 12-4 and won the division. Danny White and Tony Dorsett led the offense with Randy White and Everson Walls as defensive stars. There were close exciting games won and lost, plus a big playoff blowout over Tampa Bay. The year ended with "the catch."

1985 - Dallas finished 10-6 and won the divison. It was the last hurrah of the Landry era Cowboys with the old stars coming together for one last good season. Dallas lost several games very badly including 44-0 versus the Bears, but they had heart and beat the Giants in an exciting showdown for the division title. Dallas was down to the third QB in that game and Pelluer came through in the 4th quarter.

1992 - Dallas finished 13-3 and won the Super Bowl. It was the triplets year and it was great seeing them plow through the rest of the league and beat the 49ers in the playoffs, plus winning the Super Bowl.

1966- 1st year started watching. Good team. #1 in off, #4 def. should have won it all

1971- first time we werent called bridesmaids. Controlled the SB game beginning to end

1977- Taking care of Denver in SB and their heavily hyped orange crush. 12-2. Staubach, Dorsett, Pearson

Pelluer to Karl Powe for the key 1st down that clinched the game as I recall. Verne Lundquist on the call for CBS.

Wasn't this also the game where Jeffcoat picked off a Too Tall tipped ball took it for a TD?

I'd have to agree with these three but 1992 and 1977 would be virtually a tie. I'd also throw in 2006 as an honorable mention. Once Romo took over from Bledsoe I knew things would be exciting every week. I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but for sheet excitement and entertainment I was glued to my seat.

My three favorite seasons... That's tough to narrow down because there were so many but here goes:

#1 1971 - This one is easy because it was our first championship season. After all the years of being lousy, then all the years of coming close and the heartbreaking losses in the playoffs, then we FINALLY make it to the SB only to lose on a last second FG in a mistake-ridden game, this was absolutely the sweetest season of all time for me! All of the losing ad coming close just made it so much more awesome when we finally did win it all. Also, we won it in such convincing fashion, beating the Dolphins 24-3 in the SB!

#2 1992 - Similar to 1971 in that it had been a while sine we had won anything and no one was really giving us a chance. The media was solidly up the 49ERs butt and everyone KNEW there was no way we could beat the invincible Niners! Well, we did and went on to win the SB in convincing fashion yet again.

#3 1995 - We beat the Stealers in the SB! It doesn't get any better than that! Emmitt was totally dominant that year and, once again, no one was giving us a chance. The media this time was firmly up Brett Favre's butt and they were all picking the Packers to go all the way, but we beat them in the playoffs and then beat the Stealers in the SB.

Others for me would be: 1968, 1977, 1993, 1975, 1966, & 1978.

Impossible I think to rank one versus the other so I'll just give my top 3 not necessarily in order.

1975 - Already been recounted above, shotgun, Preston Pearson, Hail Mary, spanking the Rams etc. Remember Drew Pearson's clutch 4th down conversion along the sidelines. Without that there is no Hail Mary try. That was classic Staubach to Drew. Absolutely classic. One of the few times Dallas came out of nowhere to make a big SB run.

1989-90-91 - I don't know how you separate these really. It was the prototype building of a dynasty. Even the Cowboys for all their rich history had never done anything quite like it. To me the win in WA in 1991 stamped our coming of age. Knocked off the then undefeated Skins (11-0?). The Cowboys & Irvin go right after Darrell Green, Hail Mary TD to Harper at the half, Aikman hurt, Buerline steps in and we don't skip a beat. Then we go to Philly and beat them in miserable weather with KMart's punt return TD the clincher and Ike Holt delivers the exclamation mark crushing block.

1977 - Yes, Dorsett is a Cowboy. Pinch me! We'd been struggling at tailback since the loss of Calvin Hill & Duane Thomas. Dominated the season and crushed Denver in the regular season finale and the ensuing Super Bowl. Living in the middle of Broncomania made it all the sweeter.

I loved 1977 because it was Tony Dorsett's rookie year and that Defense was nearly unstoppable. Ed Jones, Randy White, and Harvey Martin created real havoc. Roger was Captain America. Preston Pearson was as close to automatic as I have ever seen on 3rd down. Tony Hill was a rookie contributor with veterans Golden Richards, Drew Pearson, and Butch Johnson. Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters were doing their destruction act nicely. Rayfield Wright was still around. Robert Newhouse became my favorite Fullback ever. Thomas Henderson had not melted down yet.

1971 is a close 2nd because it was the year Roger took over for good. He remains to this day my favorite player ever.

1979 would be third even though it is a season we did not win a Super Bowl like the other two. It was Roger's last year. It was one of his best years ever. His last game remains my all time favorite game. That game was worth the entire season in some ways. Captain Comeback at his absolute best.

I remember the tip from Too Tall to Jeffcoat for a TD. Didn't it happen twice in their playing days together.

I also keep up to date (look forward) constantly with any year the Cowboys have a high #1 draft. Mike Sherrard in 86, Danny Noonan in 87, Michael Irvin in 88, Aikman in 89. I still think of the potential Mike Sherrard could have had with the Cowboys. I still remember watching Tex Schramm's show and he kept playing how Sherrard broke his leg over and over again on his film projector. Loved that show...

Yes, I believe you are correct. I just don't know when the other one was.

And yes, the disappointing beginning/end for Sherrard was heartbreaking. I was steamed when the 9ers picked him up via Plan B but it was a stupid move on Dallas part.

Well, he broke his leg again running on the beach rehabbing it. I think Dallas just gave up on the guy.

Same for me. What other three could be better? Other than the other two of course. But I wasn't alive in the 70's. So my vote goest to the three championship seasons.

1992 - the absolute best for me. They arrived a year early, won a hard fought NFC Title game in Frisco as an underdog excorsing some franchise demons as well, and culminated the season with 52 freaking points in a Super Bowl win.

1978 - the first season I truly remember each game, as I was born in 1970. The season is memorable for me as Dorsett is my favorite player in franchise history and this was his second year, they closed the season with 6 straight mostly dominating wins, won a NFC Title on the road in the classic blue jerseys, and played in a memorable Super Bowl even if they did lose it.

1981 - Dorsett's finest season. He comitted himself in the offseason and it paid off with 1,646 yards. It was breathtaking to watch. Even though this season ended in heartbreak, I always looked back on it fondly because they overcame the Eagles winning the divison the year prior by beating them 17-14 in Philly, then beating them late in the year to secure the division. Also, wins against Buffalo on a Monday Night and Miami were memorable.

Taught me to appreciate the years you go 9-7 and barely miss the playoffs.

I can't pick just 3. It's got to be 4.

1975 - The first season I'd followed the Cowboys, and it couldn't have been any finer watching Staubach lead his under-rated team to post season success. I thought Roger was a living god (hey, I was 10 years old).

1977 - This team beat the crap out of just about everybody they played and steamrolled through the playoffs to a SB victory. The 1977 Cowboys are, in my opinion, the best Cowboys team ever.

1992 - Even before the season started, you just knew that the Cowboys were poised for greatness, and after so many years of not making the grade, it was oh so nice to be at the top once again. A very satisfying season!

2007 - For me, probably the most closely followed season ever. With the internet and all, I could keep up with anything and everything Cowboys related, and the fact that their offense was blasting opponents with regularity made this season a lot of fun...until December came rolling around at which time two 6 point efforts told me there was something seriously wrong. Still, for the most part, that offense was a thing of beauty for most of the season.

2009,2010,2011. I like to look forward. Besides I feel this team has some great things ahead of it.

OK I'll play. But I'll take two years we didn't win the SB.

#1 1981 - I loved this team. Still breaks my heart they didn't win in SF. Great team. Dorsett was at his best. Together with Hill, Pearson, Johnson and Cosbie they were unstopable. Springs, Newsome and Dupree were no slouches either.

#2 2006 - Not sure I'll ever experience another run like that with Romo coming into his own so unexpectedly. Just magic.

#3. 77 season. We were just so damn good. Being a Danny White fan ( yeah, I know he never won the BIG GAME for us but ) it's still a nice feeling to know he still WON a Super Bowl ring.

#2. 95 season. After the total disappointment of the 94 season & having to have those scumbag 49ers pick up their 5th ring before us, we just HAD to go back & reclaim what was rightly OURS. A 5th Super Bowl victory.

#1. 92 season. After suffering through the late 70s all through the 80s, it was finally time to start letting the league know that WE ARE BACK. Americas Team was alive & well & the rest of the NFL was shaking in their boots.

03 - Defense was a beast. I also liked our receiving core with J. Galloway, T.Glenn, A. Bryant and J. Witten(Wasn't his superstar level he is now though). I also liked Richie Anderson lol.

07 - 13-3

09 - felix jones will hopefully be back
