I blame aikman irvin and Emmitt smith for the older generation
Where are they? I know they’ve all moved on with their lives but I feel if I was in their shoes I would be pissed enough to get on these guys about REAL Dallas football
Really?
I'm curious what you think REAL Dallas football entails? How to get there, without having your hands on the throttle. Parcells, whom I am luke-warm on, stated it perfectly. If you want me to cook the dinner, then I need to shop for the groceries.
This thread is like so many others over the years. Disappointment leads to generalizations without stating what is and the road to get to what should be. It's easy as a fan to sit back and watch and make comments after the fact. Cold hard analysis falls to the wayside because emotions take over and fans think they know better than the people running the team.
The problem starts with building a team. Acquiring the players to make it all work. But then you also must determine when you are bringing in these guys if they can actually execute the design. Be in the right spot and win the individual battles.
The hue and cry on this site for several years about Kellen Moore was his offense was predictable. People pointed at Jason Garrett making the same comments. I've been around long enough to see those statements made about every head coach outside of Jimmy. Because they were being made about Landry at one time, and the outcry when he was extended in the early 60's had the same ring of fan disapproval.
After every loss over the last decade, the OC or play caller has been labeled as creating a simplistic offense that cannot compete in this league. Since the central theme to this malaise is fans finding fault after losses, one has to filter through hurt feelings to determine if there is any real fruit to these lamentations. One of the complaints about the most significant player on offense is he can't read defenses or execute the offense. Which flies in the face of the stats that tell another story.
So where is the failure? It starts with Jerry Jones and trickles down to the last player on the practice squad. And in truth, it may fall upon the culture created by allowing the players to speak directly to the owner, instead of being held accountable by the GM and coaches.
As far as past player getting involved, that felt like a pretty naïve comment.
But to somewhat answer your question, years of ending up in the middle of the pack as far as drafting keeps a team in the middle of the pack in results. The wildcatter Jerry Jones wants a short cut to success. He doesn't have enough real football knowledge to realize he needs to retire, after naming a real GM and sending Stephen back to his office with instructions not to meddle.
And then hiring someone with a superior eye for talent. Hitting rock bottom to get at the premium slots to pick. And then acquire a parcel of serendipity - because Jimmy hated the idea of luck.
But none of that requires former players to do anything but try to dredge up their glory days by making comments on the team.
