I give likes to a lot of these, but I don't know if I could watch a b&w show now.
I could not watch it because of the laugh tracks. I don't know why that bothers me so much now but it's like fingernails on the chalkboard.

My favorite TV show of all time is MASH but I waited to buy the collection until they offered the first seasons without the laugh track. Larry Gelbart never wanted a laugh track but that was the formula for all shows deemed "sitcoms" and the networks got their way. I think that is the reason he took it in a different direction to be a dramedy in order to get the laugh track removed, just a theory of mine.

I never understood the need for a laugh track. Want a live studio audience fine but why try to create laughter in a totally phone way and reuse the same tired laugh tracks?

He acquiesced with the condition that there would be no laugh track during the OR scenes. I don't like them either but I can tune them out pretty easily. Kind of like black fly season.

The Lone Ranger was probably my first favorite show as a tyke. I hadn't seen it in decades until I watched an episode a few weeks ago. It was striking just how much different things were then. In the episode I watched, the bad guys were plotting to take over a ranch owned by a widow. After their initial attempts failed they decided they needed to just tie up the good guys in a barn and burn them alive. They proceeded to do just that but the heroes saved the day just as the flames were licking at the feet of the victims.

Probably not going to see much of that in the after school time slot these days.

I guess they wanted to be the ones who decided what was funny.
