You're the owner of the Cowboys, what moves do you make in 2023

If I'm suddenly the owner of the Cowboys my first move is hiring a GM not named Jones. Most likely his name would be Will McClay. Next, I have Jerry, Stephen and Jerry Jr. escorted off the property. Then I invite Charlotte into my office for a private meeting to negotiate her future with the team. Then I put Jimmy Johnson in the ring of honor. I would wait until after Jerry Jones passes away I would change the name of the stadium to AT&T's Jerry Jones Stadium.

What moves do you make to the current roster, have at it!!!!!
I'd use this year as a holding year to see where we are (under new OC, play calling management). It's a matter of choosing the year to go ALL-IN, whether it's:
A) now and restructure to the hilt, creating Dead Money which will kill the cheap early years of Dak's extension, remembering we're already allocated $21m (7%) CAP for not playing for us in 2025 .....or
B) Small restructures and look for the improvement on offense coming from: Dak consistencies, play-calling (and Talbot/Gallup improvement)......then (possibly) restructure Dak in 2024 (if he improves) to create 'cheap' bonus induced CAP years in 2024 and 2025, enough to go ALL-IN.

Hire the best Director of Player Personnel I can find, hire the best GM I can find, and then go hang out in the owner's box and let them do their jobs.

If they fail to meet expectations over a reasonable time frame, fire them. After all, if I can buy the team then I'm a businessman and not a footballguy.

  1. Cut Tyron Smith and Zeke
  2. Franchise Pollard
  3. Sign Wagner
  4. Sign a 330lb DT in the 8-15m APY range
  5. Sign a Guard in the 8-15m APY range
  6. Bring back Ty Hilton
  7. Draft RB, WR, TE, CB with 4 of our 5 top picks

Plus various other low-cost things to fill out the roster (LS, Kicker, etc) and restructures to make it work cap-wise.
  1. My primary metric would be to get as much salary cap on the field as often as possible. That means no injury-prone players and a focus on paying players that see regular snaps.
  2. Pollard is a bridging player, I'd look to pay him while I develop two drafted running backs as a succession plan (One early, one late)
  3. Wagner adds leadership and experience to the young LB room, I would also draft a guy to fill out the roster
  4. The DT is needed to anchor the defense and eat up double teams, this is critical IMO to allow the talent on the edges to succeed
  5. A guard to give me a solid starting offensive line, hoping Walezko can be the swing tackle and Farniok can cover guard/center.
  6. Looking at the draft and how I think it will fall I could see the following:
    • Rd 1 CB
    • Rd 2 TE
    • Rd 3 WR
    • Rd 4 RB
    • Rd 5 QB
    • Rd 5 RB
    • Rd 5 LB
Ideally, it would be a CB or WR in the first round but it really depends on how the draft falls.
- Pollard tagged- our most explosive O-player a must.
- Re-do Tyron Smith to a DLaw like contract. Five best OL starters on field at same time. Tyron at LT, Tyler at LG.
- Pursue workout fit OJ Beckham - or drafting a WR within first 2 rounds

- Yes, i am really pressing Quinn to revamp Parsons role similar to Hasson Riddick rover role- and Not a full time DE

- Cut or re-do Zeke to above mininum vet salary - McCarthy likes power backs and Zeke one of best in that area. If no Zeke, add a RB in 4th rd
- i need a splash middle ground vet either FA or trade ... Rams got Stafford, OJ, Von Miller, and Ramsey in varies ways of sort and vaugh to SB.
- Sign vet LBs Bobby Wagner or Lavonte Davis to replace LVE, Clarke be my 2nd LB.
- Re-sign John Hankins, Fowler,
- Let LVE, Wilson, Schultz walk as FA.

- Would draft a specific highly regard TE within first 3 rounds if he falls - Deep quality TE class
- 1st or 2nd would fall to CB, DT

- Let McClay draft by his value - not Quinn in his ear rooting for a NaShon Wright in the 3rd rd.
- Re-sign McGovern as a vet minimum backup role - OG and C swing guy- wait late during camp to re-sign Jason Peters- see Wally Walezko
.
- Draft best FG kicker left on draft board in 6th rd.

I said hire the best I could find. I said nothing about excluding Will McClay from that search.

But what exactly have the Cowboys won with Will McClay? What makes him irreplaceable? A couple of morons playing fantasy football front office?

Under the I own the team scenario those two jokers are already out the door. Maybe I keep Will McClay, maybe I find someone else. It's not like he's been the golden key.

I think we see it 90% the same, just some small differences which I thought were line ball callsZ
  • You kept Zeke for near vet minimum. I went with a draft pick as preparation to let Pollard walk.
  • You kept Tyron, I cut him and spent the money on an expensive OG with Tyler playing OT.
I see both options as viable.
