- Well, even the harshest Tony Romo critic could see that he didn’t deserve what he got in this game. WR’s pathetically not knowing where to go. Doug Free was…borderline awful. And Costa was a disaster. All the while doing it with broken ribs. I think we are starting to make the turn, and a very important one, as a team. Romo is starting to be fiery. Sorry…this is football. That ‘silent leader’ stuff doesn’t work that well, particularly at QB. Too much emotion involved in this game. You don’t have to be a drill sergeant or be ‘whiney.’ But, you have to lead and you have to be vocal from time to time, and we are finally seeing that from Romo. Good for him.

- It would make sense that the Commanders, dirty cheaters and all who always have this major inferiority complex over the Cowboys….well, because they are massively inferior to Dallas…would resort to calling out the cadence to throw Costa off…which is illegal. There were times when Costa was snapping it so early that Witten wasn’t even done with running out his motion. I did see one play where it was pretty obvious the cheating slimeballs were calling out the cadence as one of the DE’s basically was jumping up in the air when the ball was snapped.

- This is what I feared though with the lockout. The refereeing in this league is abysmal. What is particularly bothersome is the refs that don’t know the rule. Nothing like Trent Williams *diving* to make a *shoe string tackle* on DeMarcus Ware and not getting called for holding. Or the other blatant holds that never got called.

- It was great to see that Ware was just ticked off and decided that he had enough and was going to blow Jammal Brown off the ball that Brown couldn’t even hold him.

- One thing I love about this win is that Skins fans were just about to praise Rex Grossman as their savior and as their franchise QB and how smart they were for picking him up and how he ‘just wins games.’ He’s really the same ole Rex. Turnover prone, inaccurate at times, shows some flashes, but I wouldn’t trust him as far as Brad Johnson can throw a football.

- I thought we did a great job with Fred Davis and I think that was a hidden key to the game. I think the Skins were looking for Cooley a bit more and that guy is done with…stick a fork in him. He’s now a blocking tight end at best.

- Sean Lee is everywhere and I can proudly say that I have been excited about him from day 1 and never gave up on him.

- I’m digging me some Abram Elam

- I also really dug Tony Fiametta and Laurent Robinson. Fiametta had some huge blocks, kinda like an ole Cowboys fullback who used to play at Syracuse. Robinson had some struggles to me, but he looked like he belonged from a talent perspective.

- I actually think the Landry hit should be legal because otherwise, you’re letting the WR catch the ball. But, how that is legal and how the Ball hit isn’t is beyond me. The Ball hit was bang-bang and Moss started to turn around. Landry had a lot more time to judge whether or not he wanted to hit Robinson who was mid-air.

- Gotta take Garrett to task with his playcalling. The shotgun play when we had the ball on the Commanders 2 yard line was dumb. They knew it was coming and Stephen Bowen (how’s it feel to sign with a loser, pal?) sure knew it was coming. I agree with the people talking about the play before the 2 minute warning, although I would’ve called a screen pass. Safer and would gain more yardage.

- I’m officially done with Tashard Choice. He provides nothing and simply continues to make boneheaded moves. I’m just waiting for DeMarco to get assimilated with the offense and pass protection and then to finally take over. His running out of bounds is indicative of his propensity to do stupid things.

- Nice to see DeAngelo Hall already calling out his coaches. Don’t worry Commanders fans, it will implode sooner or later.

- Congrats to Dan Bailey, I think Beuhler’s days are just about numbered. He might stick on as a kickoff specialist in order to help with preventing injuries, but I don’t see much more than that. Bailey kicks a nice ball. High and either straight or with a little fade. I like that.

- I would like to mention that technically…we are in first place in the NFC East.

- A win is a win and sometimes you have to just get those wins even if they are ugly. I think the team turned the corner as typically this is the type of game where the defense lets us down (coming back to Cowboys Stadium after good performances on the road) and they simply did anything but that. I think a lot of it has to do with our D-Coordinator, Elam and Sean Lee. I think the communication on defense is much better than it was in the past.

Anyway, I didn’t think this was a must win game, but I’m sure glad we won it here. I also think this has to break the spirits of the Commanders who came into the game talking a lot of trash and still couldn’t manage to beat the Cowboys JV squad. It could be real scary if we are able to get everybody healthy. And this team has a lot more fight in it than the opponents are used to. Guys like London Fletcher think they can just talk smack and we’ll wilt. Those days are over, loser.

Awesome thread YR. Agree with absolutely everything.

I liked what I saw from Robinson and Fiametta for sure. Sean Lee is just absolutely every where. I'm finished with Choice as well--just don't see anything special anymore.

Garrett's redzone playcalling is simply terrible.

Free hurt? He's been awful.

Refs were the worst I've seen them in a long time

I really like this win for the team. When you want to play young guys and jettison the veteran garbage, you're gonna deal with guys constantly screwing up. But what matters is that they get in there and learn how to play, trial by error. Ogletree making that last catch was simply awesome. These guys will never learn unless they make stupid mistakes.

Wow! Get outta my head! I was gonna say exactly this.. well without all the well thoughtout synopsis and excellent structure and all :)

Great post, YR.

I have been a Choice supporter from the very beginning, although I never called for him to start over Felix. At least I don't remember doing so. HOWEVER, I'm with you. Murray already seems better than Choice and I think it's only a matter of time and experience before he overtakes him.

Ugly builds character and tests your resolve. Sure, anyone can win 35 - 7....but how do you react when it is a 2 point game and you have to make the play to win or lose the game.....Well in week 1, we didn't make the plays. In the last two weeks, we have. Our team is building some mighty fine character....Coach Fadora is looking down, and dare I say, that stoic face has cracked a smile.

I think with the elite outside pass rushers sometimes the refs just realize that there is no way the tackle has a chance in hell without holding and just stop calling it, otherwise they would have to call it every snap. The more egregious examples, like Williams making a shoe string tackle, are overlooked because the refs have just completely dismissed the possibility of calling holding.

Agree on Beuhler and Choice. I'd release both today! Bailey flat out won the spot, and Choice just brings nothing to the table. I tell Tanner that he's dressing on Sunday and start getting him some snaps this week. I'd then turn around and activate Teddy Williams while telling Ogletree that he won't be dressing on Sunday. I'd also activate Orie Lemon and at least give him a series. Brooking and James have become invisable.

Lee is a star in the making. His instincts remind me a lot of Zack Thomas, but I think he's more athletic. If Bruce Carter works out the way I think he can, we could have a biblical linebacker core.

Would Costa have had a head to put his helmet on if he tried those snaps with Kitna at QB??? Kitna would have ripped it off I believe.

I look forward to these threads after every game. Thanks for writing them. More often than not, I agree with you.

Bradie is mostly doing the grunt work right now. Taking on blockers and such. His game now is to make Sean Lee's job easier. Brooking, I agree. He gets lost in coverage now and takes too many bad angles. Seems to be doing a lot of guessing out there and it ain't working.

Hurry up Carter! Man, if Carter plays like he did in college and Lee continues to play like he is. We are going to have one kick *** set of linebackers!

why is it the WR Coach brought in from G.Bay, who has supplied them with a continuous line of Wr's.........and yet under Garrett ...complicated???....offense cant get them to even line up, let alone connect w/ Romo on the correct Read...........

Is G.Bays off. system that much more player friendly than Garretts????

Is the Ivy League'r avoiding the KISS theory?

Well, wait a second.

Driver has been with the Green Bay Packers since Moby Dick was a minnow.

Jennings has been with them for awhile. So was James Jones and Jordy Nelson.

Dez is a 2nd year guy, playing hurt. Ogletree I'll give you. But Dwayne Harris and Laurent Robinson? And with the lockout?

Rumblings from Washington land that the 'future' Hall of Famer was about to walk into Jerry's Stadium were a tad shallow. One nice play, and then Gerald Sensabaugh again shuts down yet another tight end.

Then 'Cowboys slayer' Santana Moss took home a 70 yard total, without a TD. I'd say that was solid with all the injuries before and during this game.

The first series, the Commander running game and play action passes were apparent...and following that, well, their totals accumulated were well below the century mark. And their YPA was below 3.

Well, the Dallas run defense appears to have officially returned, at about the same point that Tony Romo has proven he is a leader as well.

How many sacks did the recent signee, Stephen Bowen get again? I guess the Cowboys and GM evaluators do know about player strengths and Cap management. They only retained both Jason Hatcher and Marcus Spears for what Washington 'stole' Bowen for. And it came in handy last night, when Hatcher left in the first quarter. I guess the team can still bring some heat with who they trot onto the field. Good show to see that for sure.

And in the middle of a huge and game long headache, low and behold, a kicker showed up. Hear that? A KICKER showed up, and he has long - termed written all over that smiling face!

I guess 'Benedict' Bowen took cadences and sounds to Shanahan and the 'visiting hordes.' They used that quite a bit, and not only for third downs.

But talking about third downs, and yet another item the Commanders hang a hat upon. They just should have studied the fadora. They only were successful for a mere 25% of their own 3rd down attempts against the Cowboys. And on the defensive side, where they were supposed to be the 3rd down slayers, look what the Cowboys did in crunch time of the 4th Quarter. Third down and 21 completion to Dez Bryant is looking like a nice feather in that old Cowboy fedora to this fan. Good stuff, even if plum uggly in play.

As you are seeing YR, this is building up and in the right way. Mistakes and plays by young elements when all is on the line. And to this fan, Sean Lee is looking much closer to Steeler great, Jack Lambert. As he is always making a play on the ball....good stuff. As was your OP as usual, Yakuza Rich. Thanks!:D

Congrats to Dan Bailey, I think Beuhler’s days are just about numbered. He might stick on as a kickoff specialist in order to help with preventing injuries, but I don’t see much more than that. Bailey kicks a nice ball. High and either straight or with a little fade. I like that.

This is a tough spot. No way does Beuhler make all those kicks. Sadly, Bailey seems to be one of the only kickers in the league that can't get a touchback every time he tees it off.

Great post, Rich.

I think Abram Elam might quietly be the best free agent signing league wide. The guy just gets it at Safety.
