Zach Thomas

I don't mind being alone on this if I have to be, but I am excited about him coming to Dallas. A consummate professional who can only impact this team in a positive way IMO.

You are certainly not alone in welcoming Zach Thomas to the Cowboys. I am also very excited to have him here both for the leadership he brings and for his production.

Like Lee Roy Jordan, Mike Singletary, and Sam Mills before him, physical size doesn't matter, heart does, and he has plenty of it!

I've said it before He reminds me alot of Dat, What he lacks in stature ,he makes up with heart.

I also seem to remember several missed tackles in the middle of the field during the last few games. Thats not going to happen with Zach. He should sure up the D and bring much needed intangibles.

this defense already has all the talent it needs and we will upgrade some more in the draft. what it has always lacked in my opinion has been 'attitude' , leadership and 'intensity'. these are exactly what thomas brings. i am very happy about the signing IF HE STAYS HEALTHY.

Ya think? How many tackles did Akin have this season? I think it was 5 more than Zack had in 5 games.

I can't beleive we didn't give Carp a looksee last year with the lack of production that Akin showed. Get ready for more "Carp's a bust" threads, because unless Zack gets hurt again, or old age catches up to him, where is Carp going to play?

By the way, I like the signing...its peanuts the first year, and if he works out, then we have plugged a big whole in our D in my opinion.

I thought when I read this, "that can't be right. There is no way an ILB in a 3-4 scheme where the defense is designed to funnel tackles to the ILBs could have that few." It is exactly right. In 16 games Ayodele had 57 tackles compared to Zach's 52 in 5 games.

3.5 tackles per game.

The most he had in one game was 7. The fewest Zach had in one game was 8.

How did Kevin Burnett not start over Ayodele? In the 2nd Giants game he had 12 tackles and 48 over the season as a role player.

Don't get me wrong, I do not dislike Ayodele at all, but that isn't anywhere near acceptable. To be fair to Akin, this was his worst season ever and he did have 4 passes defensed. It is still disappointing to see that.

You're definitely not alone.

And one point I haven't seen made is that I feel that Thomas' signing could have a very positive impact on Bobby Carpenter's career.

I think Carpenter has the physical skillset to be an effective player, but he seems to be lacking something.

I think that playing with and learning from Zach Thomas could provide that something.

I think so too, and it is also why I hope we draft my kid Spencer Larsen from Arizona. I think he is a bigger version of Zach Thomas and all he needs is Zach's mentorship to reach his potential.

In no way are you alone on this Hos. I'm so glad Dallas has Zach Thomas in the middle now.

I never said it here because it had zero impact on anything Dallas did last year, but Zach Thomas is the biggest reason Miami had such an atrocious season. They would have been better than the first pick in the draft this year, IMO.

Nice post Hos. I'm just as excited today as I was the day the news broke. His locker room presence alone will help our Defense by leaps and bounds.

Even a 90% Zach Thomas is a major upgrade to the ILB spot, not to mention vet leadership..

I love this signing myself. Not just for the reasons that Hos states, though those are impressive in their own right. But look at the impact Rivera, who many consider a terrible free agent signing, had on Gurode and the rest of the line. If you don't think he had a positive impact on the line because of his injury, you'd be sorely mistaken.

Zach can and should have the same impact on our linebackers. We've got talent...tons of it. But we lead a leader. We signed one this offseason.

Thomas is a low rish but high reward type of player......we have nothing but to gain in this opportunity

I'm with you from the beggining I always said this was a grat pickup. I'm from Miami and I see him every week and this is a true warrior. The talk down her in Miami is that Bill wants to move Jason Taylor for a second and a late rounder before the draft, I know that Zach would love to be back with his brother-in-law on the field. And Jerry would have 2 Cowboys that participated in Dancing with the stars.

i agree with you, a definite upgrade from that position last year, suddenly we will get more sacks...suddenly roy williams wont look as bad...suddenly the middle of the field wont be as open...suddenly we may win a playoff game...love the signing....just keep the o line off of him and we are in business...

would love taylor....if not for just having another passrusher on 3rd down....ware, taylor...and ellis and rat or hatcher...or tank...with spencer subbing...love that nickel line!

Hos - I'm so glad this is your stance on Zack. I respect your opinion as much as anyone's on this board. I'm totally on board with his signing and think he's exactly what we've been missing on D.

Nice informative post Hostile. Really puts the signing in perspective. Not only will he be great for the lockerroom but Carpenter and whoever we draft can learn from one of the best ILB of all-time.

I'm glad so many are as happy about this signing as I am. I had only noticed a couple of responses recently and they were negative. He really is a class guy in the locker room and that is needed here. He's a guy I can see in coaching. 10 years form now if he's Jason Garrett's DC I will be giddy.

:p:
