Think about Zach and Dat putting their minds together and taking this lber unit to another level.
It's a dream come true. If our young LBs can come together and learn from them it could be a great thing. Otherwise I'm going to lament not getting Patrick Willis for longer than I plan to already.

Yeah, we're rolling the dice that he is healthy and will be motivated to play for Wade Phillips, whom he respects

Yes, and that is the crux of concern for many.

I think he will be running on fumes, rusty after last year and age will do the rest.

Hope I am wrong but Old Man Age eventually takes every one down.

Well, I hope you've got plenty of Maalox handy.

52 tackles in 5 games versus 57 in 16 games. You'd take the 57 in 16? Seriously?

Noooo.
I'd take the young Zach who was not running toward the twilight of his career.
As far as leadership, I think this is Ware's team and blatantly disrespectful for an old-timer to come in on the wings of Mr. Leadership, Mr. 100%, and, in effect, implying that the rest of the Cowboys don't have leadership qualities already and don't give 100%.
While the masses may say huzzah! Cowboys players may be wondering: What are we, chopped livah?

:)

Ware benefits more than any other player if he has an ILB who can amass tackles and actually pass cover. Why in the world would he object?

More likely he's saying, who needs livah, we've got prime rib.

It's Ware's team. He doesn't need some old guy coming in like the messiah.

OK, i will meet you halfway.

Aged prime rib.;)

But it is WARE'S TEAM and I think players know that, so if Zach contributes, hurray. But Zach, don't assume you will be the leader or nuthin', though by the tenor of some, you were the last piece of the puzzle to winning the Lombardi.

When has Zach Thomas ever acted like a team is his? I never saw it even when he was a perennial Pro Bowler.

I think you have Zach Thomas and Catfish Hall mixed up.

I have liked this guy ever since he came into the NFL. I have nothing but respect for him. You all know the line in the articles, "he has more career tackles than anyone in the Pro Football Hall of Fame." Well, that's a misleading stat because Tackles was not an NFL stat for a long, long time.

What is not misleading about Zach Thomas however is that he over achieves because he is a thorough professional.

Still, I wanted to get a look at Zach's production and it really is just amazing what this guy has accomplished in his career.

Here are some stats for his career, then I want to tell you about his 2007.

168 games
1642 tackles, 1240 solo tackles
That equates to 9.8 tackles per game for his career.

65 passes defensed
19.5 sacks
15 forced fumbles
17 INTs
4 touchdowns

Okay, so last year he only played 5 games after a car wreck. We all know that.

Did you know that in those 5 games he had 52 tackles? More than 10 per game. If you take his 5 game total for tackles and project it over 16 games he would have had 166 tackles, 1 more than his best season ever, which just happened to be 2006. That season just happened to top his previous best which was 162 in 2005. He did that in 14 games.

Yeah, we're rolling the dice that he is healthy and will be motivated to play for Wade Phillips, whom he respects, and for the Cowboys, whom he grew up loving. It's hard to argue that anyone will be better prepared since he already has broken down every Cowboys game of 2007.

I don't mind being alone on this if I have to be, but I am excited about him coming to Dallas. A consummate professional who can only impact this team in a positive way IMO.

I'll co-pilot that bandwagon with ya' Hos. I am happy to have Zach on board for sure. He's gonna make the doubting Thomas's (no pun intended) feel kinda silly, I'm sure of it.

Granted, I have not seen ZT act like a team is his.

But if the fans and media start talking like it will be his team to lead, his experience, his work ethic, his 100% and so on, it will be heartedly disrespectful to the ones already leading the team. As if the others don't have similar qualiteis.

Zach may be a stop-gap and possibly on his last legs, injured, etc.

But, again, it is Ware's team to lead. Ware has earned it and he, not Zach will be around long after Zach has come and gone. Let's not forget that.

I haven't seen the fans act that way either. In fact I was shocked at the support this thread received because I had seen so many remarks about Zach Thomas' age and 2007 injury. I was under the impression that the prevailing opinion of him was negative.

I think your grasping for a straw that isn't there and isn't stirring the drink.

Those 50,000 watts have scrambled his brain and now he sees the canker in every bud. Like having the DTs and seeing bugs crawling on his arms or something.

I like Zack and think he has been an outstanding player in the NFL. I do have concerns about him coming off a major concussion and the likely hood of another
