Zack Baun at 17?

Here's an unconventional name no-one is talking about. Bit of a tweener but Simmons 2.0 IMO.

- Highest graded edge defender in coverage per PFF and 100+ coverage snaps
- 91 PFF grade rushing the passer in a high quality college conference
- 52 pressures as a pass rusher
- 19+ TFLS

He's an intriguing prospect for sure. Probably not an every don DE in our scheme, but someone that could give us + coverage ability as a LB and + pass rusher in nickel/dime situations.

I'd need to see him test very well at the combine to be considered at 17 but someone to keep an eye on.

Right now I’ve got him in the 20s, but just throwing his name in the hat as someone to keep an eye on and think about.

If he blows up the combine and proves he’s an elite athlete, the athleticism matches the production in a high level conference.

He’s a chess piece that could do a lot for our defense IMO.

I just watch his highlights and IDK WTH I just saw. I don't think he beat one player with a pass rush move, and he found himself in the backfield a lot. Obviously highlight reels don't show a lot, but it had to be one of the weirder films I have seen of a player.

One thing you notice he has an insane get off, very good football instincts, can get skinny in tight spaces, and understands gap assignments.

I will watch more in-depth on the player, but the no pass rush moves on a highlight reel throws up some red flags.

According to who? NFL.com has him compared to Clay Matthews, PFF has him as their 2nd LB, and WalterFootball has him as a top 40ish player.

He is climbing boards fast. Dane Brugler has him as the 3rd best linebacker.

17 is still too rich for my liking. But his is climbing fast. Some team will snag him, people will say “who?”. Reminds me of when people laughed at the Travis Frederick pick.

Another comp might be a bigger, stronger Version of Haason Riddick who went to Temple.

Riddick went top 15 so don’t think Baun in the 1st is a stretch.

Lol I totally saw Riddick when I watched him. That is part of the reason why I am a bit hesitant with Braun, because I was sold on Riddick but I think they would be very comparable as far as scheme type players that played all over but where do you actually play them.

Neither are DE's, but using them as cover LB's isn't really using them effectively. Maybe they become Kyle Van Noy players of some sort.

I saw Van Noy as another comp. I think you let him play SAM for us and mix in snaps as a nickel/dime pass rusher and zone defender.

Riddick hasn’t been great, but I think Bauns a better prospect.
