Zack Martin's nugget on Shotty and McCarthy

Do you actually think the coaches would play the lesser player and hurt the team just because of his name?
Every game. When you are a made man with the Jones mafia, coaches don't make no decisions about you.

If we were to be competitive next year then I would absolutely want him back. But considering how many deficiencies we have I’d rather move on and use those resources elsewhere

Perfect candidate for a team that wants to upgrade offensive line that came close last year.

Too much void money on his contract.

27M+

he’s going to be UFA.

Wow….the guy played injured most of the season. He was grinding in pain and limited, but trying to help the team. I’m shocked by the number of people ready to run him off the team. Not one of you knows whether or not he is still better than any backup guard we ran out there last year. His decision on retirement will tell you about his health and about the opinion coaches have about him.

If he thinks he can’t play at a high level when healthy, he probably retires.
If the coaches tell him he’s not that guy any more and he won’t be the starting right guard, then he is even more likely to retire.

After all the guy has given to the Cowboys, let’s not judge him on a season when he played through injury until he couldn’t, and let’s not pretend that guys like Bass and Hoffman or anyone else can replace him until we actually see it happen.
We don't know how much his health was hampering him, but I don't think he's done just from age.
1st Team All Pro the prior 3 seasons. If he can get healthy, no one should be shocked if he makes 1st Team All Pro again.

Clearly a personal choice for Zack but I hope he can return. Injury last season hurt him but his overall play throughout his career has been outstanding
