While I don't mind him making a statement as a matter of fact, I think these particular comments may come off to some opponents as disrespectful and get him targeted.
With respect to his running style, while I LOVE his physical brand of football, I do think Zeke AT TIMES emphasizes "tone setting" over making the defender miss for bigger yardage. There was one example in a recent game (pretty sure it was the Bengals) where he took a pass out of the backfield/flat and then just turned up field and made a direct bee line to the defender (DB). Yeah, he "won" that exchange and it did indeed set a physical tone, but even the announcer commented about Zeke potentially having an opportunity to make the defender miss for a bigger gain. Zeke is certainly capable of making defenders miss (had a really nice reverse cut against GB where he probably juked 4-5 guys for an extra 20 yds or so) but he seems to look for contact a bit too much for my taste (and for the sake of his long-term health).
I remarked to myself in watching a couple of his runs in recent games that he'd do well to learn from Emmitt who was a master at making people miss in the whole and at the second level...this too me was one of Emmitt's underrated qualities. If you watch some of his highlight reels (one example attached), you'll see how amazing he was at spin moves as well as what I call "the matador"...where he did a quick side step while shoving the defender with his off hand (typically his right since he carried most of the time in his dominant left hand) - much of the time resulting in much bigger gains or even taking it to the house. I would like to see Zeke use similar approaches as opposed to looking to lower the boom...but when all else fails, by all means...LOWER AWAY!
