but your source had a source and you mentioned coach P. It started somewhere.
Yes, I mentioned Coach P. Not the source. It was my speculation. Sorry if that was unclear.

Sorry, this one doesn't fly with me. The talent may not be great but that's part of coaching too......evaluating, acquiring, drafting etc. A good coach will also improve the level of play whatever it is when they get them. I know he's in the braintrust at draft time and certainly throughout camp and looking at FA's. If you tell me he was successful somewhere else (I don't know of it) maybe I'd cut him a little slack.

How do we know that he hasn't improved the level of play but that the players he has are just crap?

I'd be surprised if Sparano was much in the mix on draft day -- I don't believe Bill has his assistants involved in draft or FA evaluation -- could be wrong here -- but I don't think he's got a ton of influence in that area.

If I asked, I honestly don't remember if he told me in house or out.

If I had to wager a guess I'd say it might be Pasqualoni and therefore in house. Although if it is in house I don't know why they didn't just make the move.

Before the season started JJT (I think) wrote an article saying basically it is now or never for Zimmer. The source confirmed that JJT was right on the money in that article.

I can try and ask more questions if I get a chance.

One last thing, it was specifically said that the reason was related to the 3-4. Zimmer still isn't 100% on board with the 3-4.

Is Zimmer's contract up at the end of the year?

Not to distract from Hos's interesting tidbit (if Hos vouches for the quality of the source, it's a quality source in my book) but Zimmer is not anywhere near the biggest of this team's problems. A handful of big pass plays are about all that should be fairly criticized on this defense, and that's not an issue of scheme or coaching. Watkins has been in position to make every play other than the double move he bit on in Philly.

Sparano, well, that's another story. Anyone recall what happened with Bill Muir's contract in Tampa? I thought he was coming available soon if he didn't already renew.

Our O line just plain looks badly coached. Our D has no aggressiveness and no ability to take over a game. We need a mean SOB for both positions.
Someone who will kick butts and slap people around when they screw up. And who will also give compliments when they are earned.

Seriously... what is with the OLine... I mean there is poor play and then there is FLAT OUT not accounting for a defender and he gets through untouched... we must be first in that ranking... "Defenders getting through line untouched" - I remember last year Pettitti was a turnstyle... O'le... but I see it happening this year too? ***?

Agree the big plays have hurt us and Watkins has made most of them. The defense should be credited for stopping the run very well until the Shrimps. However, you can't disagree we aren't creating any pressure. That's what the 3-4 is designed to do.

Our D was supposed to be a disrupting type that made plays. It has not and I think a lot of it is the schemes and calls.

Not saying that Zimmer couldn't do a little better job, but you have to keep 2 things in mind:

NUMBER 1:
Zimmer is playing the defensive style Parcells wants. Parcells doesn't like to commit to heavily to the blitz for fear of giving up big plays (obviously not working).

Remember 2003 when the defensive talent was so weak that Parcells turned Zimmer loose, and Zimmer in turn played an incredibly aggressive style that somehow turned a bunch with very average talent into the top rated defense in the NFL? The point is that Zimmer doesn't mind playing an agressive style, but he is bound to playing the style Parcells (his boss) dictates.

NUMBER 2:
Somewhere we have to face the reality that many of the players that we have taken on faith to be studs just aren't - and may never be. The players I'm referring to are primarily Ware, Spears and Canty, but there are others that clearly have some weaknesses in their game.

Frankly I excpect we may start seeing a little more of an agressive style soon because Parcells is starting to learn that the talent level isn't their to make plays without being a little more creative.
