The year Zimmer gets a better job and Dallas hires a more agressive Defensive Coordinator, is the year the Dallas Defense will exceed all expectations.

Zimmer may get a better job, but as long as Parcells is coach there will not be an aggressive Defensive Coordinator.

I've never been a Zimmer hater because I knew he was a very good coach. I will say this -- he's gotten better as our talent base has improved. That's just the way it is in coaching. :starspin

once again I'd say this points to how some stats are not indicative of a true result, because we had almost zero pass rush all of the Jacksonville game and then no pass rush again this past Sunday...we racked up 6 sacks against Washington but they were missing their best player and have played much better offensively since he returned...

I dont care as much about the sack number as I do about seeing opposing QB's get hit, knocked down and hurried...if we get the sacks that go with that, awesome...but if the QB has all day to throw (as they have in basically 2 1/2 of our 3 games) then eventually that is going to catch up with us

Although in 2003, the talent level was not that great, there was no depth and the offense was not strong.

So, 25% of the league has more sacks or we are better than 75% of the league. I don't find that real impressive, but I guess it's better than being below 50%. Scoring a 75 on a test in school would barely be a passing grade. I find our pass rush inconsistent times. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the Cowboys. I'm actually happy with them, though as I said. You have to be more consistent if you want to actually win a championship.

It may just be me, but I think you have to actually hit someone to get a sack.

Weak analogy - being better than 75% of the teams is great if the sack averages are good but bad if the sack averages are bad. 75% is not the equivalent of getting 25% of your answers wrong on a test.

I'm neither a Zimmer basher or apologist, but 6 of the 9 sacks came in one game. I'd like to see a more consistent pass rush from the defense. That being said, I've got a good feeling that they are saving their exotic blitz packages for when they really need them. Then again, I may be just *hoping* that's the case.

For a good defense, there should be consistent pressure on the QB with just the front 4-5 DL with out blitzing LB/S to create pressure. I have seen TB/BAL front 4 consistently decking the QB during their SB years. Parcells doesn't like to blitz to create pressure as he believes that will eventually come back and burn us against a good team.

I don't like Zimmer but I would wait and see how we do in a close game instead of blow out games where we are playing only the pass and blitzing all the time.

I think you are right about them possibly saving some blitz packages. Sacks and pressure weren't needed by the defense to against the Titans. They could play passively against that offense and its rookie QB.
