Zimmer good or bad coach

I was watching the Panthers get pressure on the Manning and they were running line stunts that Aikman called twists and it seemed to work everytime and mannning had to throw the ball away. It made me think that I've never seen us attempt anything like that and made me wish we had some innovation like that.

I think most of us are forgetting Zimmer was a rookie in the 34 this year just like most of the players on D. I think with him just like with the players he will be better calling the D next year and we will see it run to it's fullest. I don't see many teams playing as many rookies and lacking a true FS finishing in the top 10 in D their first year in that scheme. I don't think he did the best job but it could have been a lot worse, and I think it will be much better next year. I also doubt very seriously he will get a HC job with any team this year, nor do I think BP will release him.

That's my take I know it won't sit well with many on this board but oh well... I like Zimmer and think he's doing a good job. I don't see how any time a teams D finishes in the top 10 you can say the DC isn't doing a good job.

I agree jk Nice post

Parcells is on record saying that Zimmer's play calling tends to be too aggressive, Zim likes to blitz and stunt, Parcells wants to line up and smash you in the face.

We were in a new scheme with a lot of new players, and almost none of them have played the 3-4. Couple that with Parcells conservative nature and it's no wonder we were pretty vanilla.

Throw in the injuries to Henry, Glenn and half our LBs and it is amazing we played as well as we did. THAT'S CALLED COACHING.

It is beyond ridiculous to want Zimmer gone.

I'm really amazed at all those that agree. I'm wondering where the Zimmer haters are? I guess it's hard to argue the facts when you have no facts to support your claim that Zimmer sux....

I think Zimmer is a excellent defensive cordinator.

When he gets adjusted to the 3-4 our defense will blosum. Im hoping Greg Ellis and La'Roi Glover stays..

Now that Zimmer has the basic concept of the 3-4, it's time to sit down and watch video on the Patriots,Steelers, and Chargers on how to blitz from this scheme, and how to confuse offenses. Once he gets that down this off season, we will be pretty dang good.

Zimmer sucks and should go. He sucked 10 years ago, he sucks now. PERIOD. He isn't getting any better. There are so many bad things I could say about him I could go on all night but that would be a waste of a good night. It's not conjecture it's obvious. GROZ lives.

My biggest problem with Zimmer is he can't put together a successful blitz package that actually gets to the QB. We blitz 8, and the QB still has plenty of time to throw. That means its either too predictable or isn't structurally chaotic enough.
We have a pretty solid defensive roster personnel-wise. I don't think its playing to its ability, that's why I call Zimmer a crummy D coordinator. Look at the Pats, they plug guys in off the street into their secondary and still don't get burned deep in the last 2:00 and still win. Look at the Skins, there's only about 3 players on their defense worth having yet they are stout. We have more good players on defense than those teams but we're not as good. That's how I'm judging it. We shouldn't have to have a probowl player at every position.
Another problem i have with Zimmer, is that our DEs can't get the QB the way that they should. Watch a guy like Freeney or Strahan, they have a plethora of moves and often get to the QB as fast as the QB sets up to throw. Why can't we do that? Lord knows we've spent a ton of first round picks to get someone with the talent.
IMO, that's coaching.
Minimizing Roy's success and forcing him to play to his weaknesses...that's bad coaching IMO. IMO, it would be smarter to put him in as LB than to keep forcing him into the FS role. That's coaching.

Zimmer is awful...

I hope to God he gets a job somewhere else or is fired...

You didn't give one reason other than "he sux" how many years was he the DC here? I can think of 3 and one of those we had the number one D almost all year. in 04 we where riddled with injuries and last year we where top 10 again and in a new scheme, with a lot of FA's and rookies all the while lacking a true FS..... as BP pointed out he thinks Zimmer blitzes tooo much maybe that was due to the lack of coverage skills in his first year here but maybe next year BP will let him open up the blitz's..... So instead of just saying he sux give examples.....

Like mad wows. 2 excuses in 1 sentence. It just gets better and better.

ANd the excuses continue.

I pray to God that you are wrong.

All I ever see for Zimmer is excuses. Lets say he is back next year. We still get no more pressure on QBs and still are no good at forcin turnovers or sacks or tackles for losses. God only knows what excuses will be made for Zimmer then.

If excuses were what made a DC great then Mike Zimmer would be the greatest DC ever. The excuses I have seen in this thread have given me a good laugh I have to say.

I look at our defense as it has done good in spite of Mike Zimmer. Not because of him. I look at it as how much better our D would be with a guy like Capers or Greg Williams.

It would not matter if we had a HOFer at every position on defense we would still suck at sackin QBs and forcin turnovers. I have said it before. It will take gettin a real DC in here for some of you Zimmer lovers to see how he sucks. It will take a guy like Caper to come here and then Ware gets 15+ sacks for some to finally see it.

I look at Zimmer as someone who wastin away the talent we have on our D with his read and react bend dont break never pressure the QB defense.

I don't need to give examples. Zimmer gives 16 clinic's a year. All it takes is 20-20 vision.

:lmao2:

If you like watchin the OTHER QB have all day to throw the ball. Zimmer is the DC for you. If you like a defense that is not good at forcin turnovers. Zimmer is the DC for you. If you like almost no tackles for losses Zimmer is the DC for you.

I'm still waiting for one thoughtful, logical anti-Zimmer argument.

Looks like I'll be waiting forever.

Zimmer's defense has been at the league's bottom for sacks for nearly every year he has been the DC. He is too conservative and puts no pressure on the quarterback. With all the time quarterback's have to throw, they usually find the open reciever. Brunell to Moss. Manning to Shockey. If your going to give a weak cover two, might as well put some pressure on the quarterback.
