Even if it is 4.58, not many people will catch him if he gets going in the open field. He has plenty of burst to separate from CBs too.

Doesnt matter I want him to catch the ball, not fumble it, not run so fast he gets injured, just catch the damn ball at this point.

Also it doesnt matter once the pads come on. The combine info is all dead at this point.

at his pro day he got timed as low as 4.47 and as high as 4.68. None official times.

But on tape he plays much faster. When he gets into the open field good luck.

this video puts him up against jordan shipley, and mardy gilyard who ran in the same 40 range, and they get similar times here, so yeah i guess

His speed is reminiscent of T.O.'s. T.O. didn't have a great 40 time, but he is freakish when running on the football field.

Dez Bryant's 1.50-second ten-yard split in the forty-yard dash that he ran at his March 29 Pro Day would've been faster than every single wide receiver's at the Scouting Combine.
Bryant, at (an arguably overweight) 6'2/225, showed more initial acceleration than Trindon Holliday, Jacoby Ford, and the rest of the track stars who ran sub-4.4 forties in Indianapolis. According to one NFL scout, Bryant "won't get far out of the top ten" on draft day. Another scout called Bryant's NCAA-imposed suspension in 2009 "a non-issue for NFL teams."

A players' 10 yard split is, in my opinion, the single most important indicator of a player's explosiveness.

Dez is PLENTY fast. Infact, his 10 yard split shows that he has elite speed for his position -- his game film proves this, as well.

I think he takes the Barry Sanders approach to running when he has the football in his hand....he just runs "scared".

The 10-yard is definitely important for a receiver.

I'd argue that it is much more important indicator of explosiveness and "game speed" than a player's 40 time. If you pay attention to WR/CB battles during games, you will see that a WR usually gains the most separation from the corner within the first 10 to 15 yards of the route. Couple this with a player's route running ability (Dez, like Miles Austin, runs very precise routes) and hands (Dez has VERY good hands, especially in traffic) and you get the three most important areas that a player must excel in, in order to succeed as a WR at the NFL level.
